My son raved about this place as he previously was there with his boss. He took a piece of banana cream pie home for me that day and it was the best I've ever had. So we decided to go there for our "full moon" night out. First, they were out of hamburger. Ok I get that it happens but it kind of threw us. My son had a chicken salad, delicious but rather small. They both had chili which was ok but rather plain, just meat and beans (I make a much better chili). I had the steak and when it came I was rather surprised that they do not have steak sauce (is that supposed to be "bring your own"?). Also, it was supposed to come with mushrooms but they were out of those too and just came with grilled onions and peppers which were really good. The steak was nicely cooked but the baked potato was only a half a potato, never saw that before at any other restaurant. I'm used to ordering a meal and taking ¾ of it home for a couple more meals and baked potato is one of my favorite leftovers so I could have done with a whole one. For dessert, one son had a strawberry sundae. There wasn't any sauce on it and the strawberries were frozen and tasteless. We had a good time but all in all, it wasn't worth the drive from Mankato.

Very good! Reminds me of coffee houses I've been to in Germany and Austria. The place is cute and the food is great quality (I had the blueberry feta salad). I will definitely be back.

This tiny restaurant is an absolute gem (closes at 1PM on Sundays). When we want to impress visitors, whether foodies or homespun types, we drive the 35 miles from Mankato to the Cottage Café. Meat and produce are as locally sourced as possible (herbs and table flowers from the "backyard"!). Prices are very reasonable, the kitchen is reliably excellent, the decor is quirky but excellent because it reflects the restaurant's total integration in the sustainability of craftspeople in the area: pretty much everything is for sale. Don't forget to take home fresh-baked goods for breakfast! Only one minor limitation: Waitstaff are well-intentioned, sometimes charming, but seem to lack experience with restaurants serving food of this calibre.

Meals are lovingly constructed, beautiful to look at and wonderful to eat. Enjoy the charm of the place and don't forget that the carmel rolls are to die for!

Definitely a worthwhile experience! A spot of warmth in the middle of cold, snow-covered farm country. Take a trip or make a pit stop here for some great food, a treat, and some love from the folks here.
