After the Dingo Bar coffee shop closed years ago, I kept stopping by to see what would replace it. The Peninsula Neighborhood is really enhanced by having a coffee shop, so I'm happy to see Cafecito has opened. I know that many small local restaurants and coffee shops have had to close or experience reduced and erratic hours. So, I try to be understanding and supportive for those that are trying to make it work. Today I visited for the first time and tried the latte on ice. It was really very good and needed no sugar or syrup. They have a fun variety of authentic Mexican snacks which will make some people nostalgic who are familiar with those items. I will post some photos with this review so you can get a sense of the venue. I will certainly stop in whenever they are open since I frequently do service calls and business in the Peninsula Neighborhood area. Also, will be recommending to friends.
Wish they’d actually open up the cafe! Have been walking around the peninsula for months and they always seem to be closed. :-( maybe there’s no set hours or inconsistent in keeping the business open? Would love to try it.
The place is great and the coffee and food too. The problem is that you can never know when it is open since it rarely is anymore. The hours have been changed and reduced a lot during the past months but still not reliable. People are not going to plan to go to a place when it is consistently closed during their supposed business hours.

Hours have undergone some changes which can be tough. However, otherwise fantastic experience. Coffee is excellent. Great atmosphere.

So adorable! I had the cortado and an horchata latte and both were really good.

Best pastries in Iowa City! Always fresh! Also, both their house coffee and cortado are amazing.

Fun coffee shop with a unique atmosphere. Mexican mocha and Mexican hot chocolate were great. Customer service was top notch.

Closed during posted business hours at lunch time on a Sunday. Guess we will find somewhere else to go….

It’s a Friday at 12:21pm, and it’s closed. I really wanted to buy an expensive drink, but I guess I’ll just dehydrate. 😀🥲

The opening hours are never accurate. The owners need to decide on a set of hours and keep them.
