I love Juan Valdez, I discovered this quaint coffee shop on a trip to Colombia a few years ago and was excited to see it in my neighborhood! I went in on a Saturday morning and it took me 30+ minutes to get my drinks. By then the food I ordered had also gotten cold (because they let it sit there until your drink order is ready, which took 25 mins). The store was staffed by 3 people who looked overwhelmed and didn’t know how to get the orders done in an efficient manner. I walked in with only 1 party in front of me and left with the store FULL because it was taking 30 mins to get orders out. It’s poorly managed and staff are inefficient during busy times. As much as I love the food and coffee here, I won’t be going back until service improves.

I'm always on the lookout for new coffee shops, so I was so excited to see Juan Valdez pop into the same area that I stop by for publix. My experience this morning though has me reluctant to go back.

The Arequipe (dulce de leche flavor) is a specialty of theirs, so I ordered a arequipe latte and a blueberry muffin. I asked whether there was a sugar free option, they said no - but I still wanted to try it, so I ordered it anyway. My order was made quickly and I headed home. When I got home and tried my drink, there was no flavoring at all.

I drove back to the store and shared that there was no flavoring, their response was "of course not, you said you wanted sugar free and we don't have any that isn't sugar free." Both the owner and one of the employees were there, and they both looked at me like I was crazy. I said there must have been a misunderstanding, I wanted the arequipe latte regardless of whether the syrup was sugar free or not. Instead of remaking my drink, the owner took the one I already had and simply added the syrup. He didn't even stir it, so when I re-tried it I couldn't taste a difference. Normally I would be okay withy drink being adjusted to meet my needs, but it had been a half hour (a drive home and back) since I ordered, so the drink was getting cold.

The muffin was dry, not worth the calories. I won't be finishing it.

Now that I have the flavored latte, it's fine. The espresso itself actually has great body and flavor, but the syrup is bland and generic. I wouldn't get it again.

The store is small, but has a cute ambiance. I visited on a Tuesday morning at 830 and there was no line.

Given the lackluster flavors and the attitude of the owner and the employees, I hesitate to return here.

I was raised a coffee drinker (supposedly even since I was but a child, yet I was never able to stand black coffee, until I had some Juan Valdez!!! Now I have at least 1 cup of black coffee w/ just some sugar every single day! I just love it!

The online ordering system does not appear to Be working ( representative claimed they never received the order , though I had email confirmation) which defeats the purpose of ordering ahead, to compound the problem one of the representatives was more concerned with eating their breakfast, telling their co worker” take of of it I am eating “ rather than taking care of the issue( fairly large order ) Needless to say a 7.25 AM scheduled pick up time turned into a 7.50 AM it is ready time, just to drive to the office and find out we were missing part of the order. Sad to see the lack of care and effort.
