Decent place for a coffee. Stopped in for a cappuccino on a weekday morning and it was quite busy. They got through orders reasonably quickly. Very few places to sit so if you’re looking for a coffee shop to hang out for awhile in, this wouldn’t be the place. Overall very solid.
Fresh made to order mocha. Perfect balance of chocolate and coffee and they even did the milk foam heart on the top. Exactly what I needed. So delicious!!💚
The best for local DC coffee. Forget other local spots like Compass, La Colombe, etc., they are not 100+ years old local like Swing's. I am delighted that the G Street location re-opened with most of the same friendly staff and a similar look and feel to the old spot. (Note: I know that THIS location is not 100+ years old, but the business is what I'm referencing in this post).
[Note: As of 25 May 2016, this location is closed until sometime in 2017]
My "go to" local coffee stop--best lattes this side of Italy, no, REALLY. Stand in line on a busy morning and hear languages spoken from Europe and beyond (the World Bank is just down the street).
Great variety of coffees to purchase (by the POUND, not 12oz bags).
Great retro decor (but it was held on from their original locations--so is that retro or traditional?)
Anyway, I am sad they are closing (hopefully it's only temporary but after the building is renovated, who knows if they'll want to pay the undoubtedly higher rent when completed)
There is another location--their roaster in Alexandria, about a mile from the Braddock St metro stop--with a coffee shop. I'm told that it has a modern decor rather than this location's rustic feel. I will have to make the trek someday.
The most charming coffee shop in the White House area for it’s convenient location and historical accents. They are one of only a few places who sell lightly roasted beans (unburnt, the way they should be!). Very much the opposite of a big chain like Starbucks.
Wonderful coffee roastery with a lot of history and character. Despite its institution status, they still offer all the espresso and filter coffee types popular in trendy bars today. Definitely a must-visit for real coffee lovers.
Perfect place for great cup of coffee. Don't worry about the line- it moves fast! The coffee is very smooth, and infinitely better than that 'other' coffee place! Definitely try a bagel too. Service is friendly and efficient. You won't go wrong starting your day here.
Swings is an awesome, local coffee spot. It's a bastion of goodness in the otherwise chain-filled downtown area. Their coffee is good, and they have baked goods as well. It's worth the walk to swings to get away from Starbucks!
I am lucky enough to walk past Swing's every day on my commute. The shop can be a little busy, but it's busy because people know how good it is. The baristas are very talented in your drink creation, and every time I've gone, they've waited until I take my first sip to see how I like my drink. I've never had to have them fix a drink, and I don't ever think I would ever have to send a drink back. The staff is very friendly despite the, what seems like, busy atmosphere no matter the time of day.

Friendly baristas and unique coffee- how many times do you have coffee from Myanmar? Worth a shot.
