I've seen Patria Coffee Roasters on a few different Best Coffee Shop in LA lists so when I was on my train ride home from Long Beach, I stopped by Compton to check out this little coffee shop. Before discovering Patria, the only thing I knew about Compton is that it's the hometown to the Williams sisters, but I had no idea where it is and I would not have guessed that I'd come to Compton for a coffee shop.

It was a worthy visit indeed. I mean, I wouldn't take the metro and come from LA just for a cup of coffee but at least Patria deserves those best of mentions. My flat white was on point, I enjoyed it even though I was tired and full after a long run and a food tour in downtown LBC.

The shop is smaller than I expected, the coffee bar and service counter on one side and a few small tables on the other. It was packed during my Sunday afternoon visit. When I saw their bean bags on the merchandise shelf, it occurred to me that I've seen them at a local coffee shop in Hollywood. The bean bag design features a picture of the coffee shop, seen from its front lawn. There is a sense of pride and belonging in that picture, and that's what I felt about the coffee shop too.

This shop holds a special place because I grew up here as a teen and coming back to Compton as an adult is nostalgic and bittersweet in some ways. The coffee here is always spot on and it's the perfect place to read, catch up with friends or simply to people watch.

I went to Patria’s a while back on a Wednesday around 11:00 so my memory might be a lil spotty, but I think I will recall a lot of accurate things in this review. It was my 1st and last time here, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t go here again. I most absolutely would go here again! It was a great experience, but it was more so that the place is far from me and I would go again if I met up with friends there. It was a warm day and was a lil warm inside, but there was seating to be found so all was well.. My assessment of my visit will go over 4 things which are cleanliness, aesthetic, employee engagement and food with an overall thought regarding if I would return to this place:

Aesthetic: I love the intermingling of coffee and chicanx/latinx here! Super cute with plant mom vibes, very much my vibe lol there is a good amount of seating, but if you got there when it was busy, you might not make it to a table. Of course, the music was great! Good volume for talking with others. Outlets were placed in good places and there were enough throughout the place. This place is a vibe and I like it a lot!

Cleanliness: Patria is very clean and it was a great place to do work and not feel cluttered. No trash on the tables or the floors. Restrooms are clean too.

Employee Engagement: I was served by a wonderfully nice lady and another employee. They were super engaging and polite, helpful and kind. I asked them questions about their plants for sale and they had all the information at their fingertips. Wonderful!

Food: I just got the Mexican Mocha and it was so good!! Probably the best one that I’ve had from a coffee shop! You can tell that they actually use Ibarra and that makes a huuuuuge difference.

Overall Thoughts: I looooooove this place! I’m just sad that I live so far from it! It is so good and the atmosphere fits my work study style so well! I can’t go consistently, but I suggest that ya’ll go to Patria and grab yourself something.

Love this place. Customer service is always great! Guests are always friendly. It’s a great atmosphere to work or to have a chat with a friend. The restroom always clean and outside too.

Affordable quality coffee roasted in house with house-made syrups. They offer vegan-friendly drinks and have multiple nondairy milks. This is a coffee shop for the community and it really delivers on that mission.

Compton coming up! With Komiko and moms burgers Compton boasts in the culinary world of LA and now can say it has an essential coffee shop with Patria coffee. Rustic decor and a good election of drinks. Parking is easy and has a nice outdoor grassy area.

Love that this establishment is in Compton. Was hoping for the experience other reviewers have had but I can not relate. When I walked in I was greeted and waited for the one employee to finish what he was doing. Placed my order and waited. It was extremely unfair that the person who ordered after me left with his drink, which took 5 minutes to make, before I did. It took about 2 minutes to make mine! The employee knew it would take him longer to make the other customers drink so am confused as to why this happened! I could go into speculation that the other customer was not Hispanic but am hoping this wasn't the case. Coffee didn't exceed expectations either.
Either way, I will not be supporting this establishment.

First of all, there's parking along the lefthand side of it so that was wonderful. It has really nice vibes, there's green plants outside and a nice seating area. Then you walk in and it's lively with conversation, there's plants for sale, there's a free book box for a project, there's a selection of drinks and friendly baristas. I got the oat milk coffee slush and it was delicious. He got a hazelnut latte and it was sweet and icy. We shared a vegan coffee bread and it was pretty good. The place is sha-poppin so, order ahead. They have a website where you can place online orders for pick up and I would suggest you do that.

This is a great hole in the wall, the coffee is great. Often when you order a latte it tends to be either too sweet or too bitter. Though when I decided to order a Vanilla Bean Iced Latte, it was wasn’t too sweet nor bitter but was instead a nice savory flavor to which you can slowly enjoy & savor. Definitely a spot I would recommend, and one I’ll be sure to frequent.
