Out of all the places I’ve been to in Flagstaff, this is among my favorites in terms of coffee shops to work in, especially on a nice day when they open the windows up. So much natural light!! So many outlets!! Drinks are decent, but the atmosphere is definitely the selling point for me.

The coffee shop is in the front, and the barbershop is in the back. Unique set-up that I personally had never experienced before, but it feels very harmonious. I would 100% come back here.

Really beautiful coffee shop in what looked like an adapted reuse space. I really appreciated the ceramic dishes instead of paper cups. 🙌 Cappuccinos just taste better in an actual cup.

Great place with a lot of character, but lacks food options.

I also didn't feel very welcomed by the crowd and the braista looked confused when I asked for my Dragon Tea warm instead of hot and still made it very hot.

When I walked in some of the costumers stared at me, grimaced, and walked away from the spot they were in. They stood away from me like I was diseased or something and kept looked back to forth towards me until they left.

I take it I don't "fit it", but I stayed anyway.

I believe this is new coffee shop for this great area. Super clean and woodwork is impressive. This coffee shop is part of Val’s Workshop. Great tasting quality coffee and friendly staff. Good spot for a quick drink to go or chill and enjoy the ambiance.

One of my new favorite coffee shops in town. Mellow vibe with soft jazz music and light and bright atmosphere. Great spot for watching people walk by. In summer, huge windows open to the street. Dirty chai and chocolate scone is a great combo. Real ceramic cups keep your coffee warm. CCW friendly zone as well. ;)

Favorite coffee shop when we visit Flagstaff. We recommended Irish cream latte.

Really cute shop! Barber shop in the back and coffee in the front. Got the cinnamon roll iced coffee which was perfect! Not too sweet just right. Also got a cherry danish and it was delicious. Clean open and friendly staff. Will be back:)

Coffee and décor were wonderful, but barista had a snooty condescending attitude. I honestly couldn’t wait to finish my order so that I could end our conversation. Up side is she made my late rather well. I’d give them a shot if you’re near by. Maybe you’ll catch a different barista 🤷‍♂️

Went to get an americano. A double shot of espresso is a reasonable $3. A medium or large americano is $5 or $6, and both come with a double shot of espresso.

Why am I paying $2 or $3 for water and ice?

I walked right out. Fix your pricing structure, Val.

My husband and I came to Val's after searching local coffee shops, reading reviews and looking at photos. Val's currently has a 4.8 out of 5 stars and glowing reviews. Due to this, we were particularly let down after our experience.

Starting out, it was great. The space is absolutely gorgeous and well decorated. The indoor/outdoor usage and theme are spot on and very well done.
The young lady at the register who took our orders was very sweet and had excellent customer service skills, though from the beginning she didn't seem very experienced with the POS system or with drink making in general.
At the time, there was only 1 other person in the shop and she had already gotten her drink, so we didn't have to wait long for ours. We ordered a brewed coffee and a vanilla latte with less sweetener. (1.5 pumps of vanilla in a 16oz vs. 4 pumps).
We got our beverages after about 5min, so not a big deal. I tasted mine and decided that I would add another shot since is was quite sweet and milky still, despite having less than half of the syrup. A few customers had entered at this point, so I thought I would wait. I went up after they were through to order my shot and proceeded to wait.
And wait.
And WAIT.
It was around 20-25min later when I finally got my single shot.

This poor, inexperienced young lady was having to run POS/register, make all the beverages & check in the barbershop customers as well. She was very obviously NOT an experienced barista and by no fault of her own was struggling. This is a MANAGEMENT problem. Whoever is staffing/owns this place is NOT doing their job. You do not leave an inexperienced worker alone without the tools, experience or backup they need. If you have to staff someone alone, you staff someone who knows 100% what they're doing.

In the end even after waiting for my single shot, the drink was still very sweet and milky. The shots being pulled were not packed (we observed this while watching her make drinks), meaning the shots were coming out weak compared to what they should be. (We both have over 5yrs of coffee house experience and management, this is not coming from a hobbyist or personal preference.) Despite not being happy with my drink though, we had to get on the road. (We actually almost left right before the shot was finished because we were so frustrated.)

I do not like leaving bad reviews, it makes me anxious and a little sick to my stomach. After talking about this with my husband though, we decided it was a big enough issue that is obviously not reflected within prior reviews, that it needed to be shared. Hopefully, this is helpful for both future customers as well as Val's and their future development.
