The service was excellent. They made a really tasty vegan wrap on request. The zucchini coffee cake was great as well. The ambience was good and so was the choice of music.

Best little coffee shop in Haines! Just walking in you can tell that the owner has put a lot of thought into creating a warm and welcoming environment. There is plenty of seating, not all of which is visible from the door so be sure to go in.
The food is amazing and way more extensive than one would expect from a Coffeehouse/Bakery. We ordered the chorizo burrito breakfast burrito, sausage and biscuits and the We ordered the chorizo breakfast burrito, biscuits and gravy, cinnamon rolls and of course the coffee! All of the food was way better than expected and the cinnamon rolls were to die for. Cinnabon has nothing on them! Literally the best cinnamon rolls we have ever had in all of our travels.
What really made it stand out was the welcoming employees and the fact that the owner takes a personal interest in his business and actually took the time to chat with us and talk about the local area. If you’re looking for a great breakfast/lunch, quick snack or hot cup of great local coffee you can’t go wrong with the Rusty Compass Coffeehouse!

Best atmosphere in town. Has great coffee, cinnamon roles, sandwiches and ice cream. The staff is friendly and helpful. The location is right in town and within walking distance of the harbor and cruise ship dock. Free WiFi with purchase is very helpful. Any visit to Haines should include a quick stop at the Rusty Compass.

Love this little place!
Pros: GREAT coffee, variety of non dairy milk options including soy, hemp, almond, friendly staff - ask them for a recommendation. I got the Chai Tea with coffee (yes, tea with coffee) with hemp milk. Cute interiors. Go there at 9am on the dot when they open and get their freshly baked caramel cinnabon - you will not be disappointed. Warm, gooey, crunchy.... heaven.
Cons: Food menu was small but I would expect it for a small local place like this so if you are looking for somewhere that serves a large breakfast or lunch this is not the place to go.

I ordered the biscuits and gravy. It was ok but cold. Also ordered a 20 oz mocha. I got a 20 oz cup with about 15 oz (maybe, I am being generous) of fluid. All the cocoa was at the bottom after I finished the actual drink. Service at the counter was friendly, the kid who brought my food could have cared less if I was a zombie asking for brains. Overall I gave a 3 but if I could I would give it a 3.5

Went there with my family of 7 on a Thursday morning on what seemed like a pretty quiet morning in Haines. We all got the Chorizo burritos and veg burritos and they were amazing! The owner/chef came out and chatted with us and was a super friendly guy! Great Cappuccinos and Americanos. Nice and strong. Cozy interior, welcoming environment all around.

The Rusty Compass is a nice, quaint place to relax with a cup of coffee and a pastry. Or if you're hungry for food they have a great variety of sandwiches and other food. And don't forget to save room for ice cream! The staff here is friendly and amazing. If you don't have time for anything else in Haines, make this your stop!

Delicious food! Great service! Their cinnamon rolls are incredible! The owners are some of the most kind and helpful people we have ever met.

they don’t have much (if any) vegan options 😞service is good though. and it’s a great atmosphere to hang out inside as well as the seating outside on a nice day. one of the few cafes in the area that are open year round
