The beans sold for retail at this location taste ashen, like they were roasted improperly. You're still better off buying the beans though because Black Dog's beans require more rest than most roasteries' beans because they're very high in CO2, which is a little ironic given the place's obsession with freshly roasted beans. Usually for brewed coffee coffee beans require 3-5 days rest and espresso 10-14. I haven't had good experience making black dog coffee in my brewer with anything less than 16 days rest, and even then it's not much to write home about.

The tasting notes aren't written on the bags and have to be found either on little placards or online, which can be frustrating if you're trying to pick something out, and the place charges $19 per bag. I'm not opposed to paying extra for good coffee (and do, frequently), but this isn't good and it doesn't earn that price. If you absolutely must buy from a local roaster, Weird Brothers and Cafe Amouri are just on the other side of the state border, reasonable for a weekend trip. If you're on the go and just want a cup of coffee immediately without having to make it yourself, Joan and Joe on the southern end of Charles Town makes a lot more sense

They sell bags of coffee beans you need to grind. Coffee is ok, it's not strong enough for my taste.

The service was alright, a little disorganized but not too bad. The coffee on the other hand was awful; I ordered two vanilla lattes, both were so cold you could have chugged them without fear of burning your tongue or throat, there was a very distinct taste of burnt coffee beans, and the lattes didn’t have a vanilla flavor at all. Very basic coffee like you get at a convenience store, certainly not specialty coffee at all and not worth the price.

Specialty drinks are not overly sweet, and not bitter- just right. Friendly and efficient staff. Clean. Lots of local fare: spices, vinegars, honey, lotions, jams, syrups, etc. I plan on having fun making Christmas baskets for friends and family with all the great products they carry.

Having previously worked in a local coffee shop before many places don't get my order quite right but here...I will absolutely return, my drink was made correctly and tasted great! Absolutely love the fact that thay have many different syrup flavors to choose from

For one I love to support small business but my biggest reason for stopping in was to support them after some ridiculous unnecessary political backlash (talk abt a backfire) and the place is super adorable, staff is AMAZINGLY pleasant and I told her to surprise me with her favorite drink bc it was my first time and WOW 🤯 I was not disappointed! I definitely will be making more frequent visits!

Very good iced Carmel latte for the road and great ground coffee for back at home!!

The best brewed coffee, hands down! My husband loves the dark roast (Watchdog) and I love the medium brew (Ethiopian). We get a bag of beans for both of us and order a cold brew coffee every time we are around there or want to have a special treat. Their cold brew coffee (AMAZING!!!) is truly a cold brew coffee, not what other places do just taking cooled coffee and pouring it over ice. You can taste the difference, as true cold brew is so smooth, has no bitterness and is divine, which theirs is. We drive 45 minutes to get this delicious coffee! I do wish it was a tad less expensive as I’d love it to be my everyday brew but for now it’s a great weekend brew. I recommend them to all my fellow coffee connoisseurs.
