If you like coffee, real coffee, this place is going to satisfy your craving. The coffee is high quality and not over roasted, letting all the complex flavors and aromas shine. They grind beans fresh for your order, and individually drip straight into your cup. If you have ever been to Philz in California, this place is going to be reminiscent.
Update after a second visit:. I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars. I have been roasting my own coffee beans for years and understand what it takes to make a great cup of coffee. These guys nailed it. I tried a different bean today and it was even better than the last.

Having this lovely coffee next to my office downtown has been the best treat on those long hard days. Sometimes I even grab a breakfast treat too, I commented to my coworker to day that the bar I got was so good it tasted like it came from my grandma's kitchen. The staff are also a delight every time I am in, I no longer get coffee anywhere else as it feels like a betrayal to the baristas' here that worked so hard to form good customer relations. (Sorry Ryan, that I got McDonalds coffee the other day, it wasn't worth it. Please forgive me)

Great vibes, Lil pumpkin was good not the best. Tasty donuts as well!

Awesome cappuccino, great pastry options (including gluten free)! Baristas are patient and helpful.

I can't comment on the service because there was no service. Took 15 minutes to get the order of the one person in front of me and I had to leave for an appointment.

Coffee was great
The staff... Not so much. They made us americanos that were cold... We were VERY courteous about letting them know and the girl was clearly annoyed. We said we would be fine with a bit of steam but he insisted on re-making which was cool - she stormed off into the back, and we were very grateful to him, but even in re-making them he acted put-off... I tried to chat him up, asked about the type of beans they used and he wouldn't make eye-contact...
In a word... pretentious. Won't be back

Horrible experience...the guy that served us was rude (silly cap and glasses). He seemed upset that we were purchasing there products and rushed us through the line. Nothing was labeled so the menu meant absolutely nothing to a customer so I asked what things were and he got upset and hit the menu and told me to R E A D. He asked me twice if it was for there or to go I said dine in twice and he still gave it to me To go. When I asked for a plate and utensils he got upset and stormed off, came back and dumped a tray on the counter and walked off again. The coffee was cold and tasted like it came from a gas station and the food was pure sugar, cold and soggy (we left the uneaten garbage at our table). I paid $58 to feel upset and still hungry. Worst coffee in town hands down.

The ambiance in this place is just amazing. LOVE the historic building with the modern touches. Coffee is amazing as well.

First Ave is one of my favorite weekend spots for coffee. They are owned by the same woman who owns Roast House Coffee, so you know they brew the best coffee in town. They have a huge selection of donuts and pastries, and a lot of them are gluten free and vegan. They aren't really labeled, but just ask and they are happy to point out which ones are! Their walls are always featuring local artists, and I just love the general vibe of the place. Since it's on the West edge of downtown, it's usually pretty easy to find parking.

Good coffee. The coffee cake was amazing. A lot of room to work also.
