FIVE perfect Stars! What a lovely coffee shop with "adult" beverages should one want +++ Charcuterie anyone? Other delightful food choices?? And more from the other stores inside The Granary Building. A lovely location right on the water, easily accessible from downtown Bellingham, loads of parking and plenty of things for the kids to do whilst grabbing an extremely well-drawn Latte or Cappuccino etc.... a must visit and our new go-to for morning coffees and an evening splash of one of their wonderful wines on display

We've come by a couple times to go to some of the other places in the vicinity and the coffee always smells amazing. This time we finally stopped in. We got a cup of the drip coffee from Guatemala and a cortado. The coffees are amazing. And the atmosphere is very cozy. You can sit inside or outside. They also serve beer cider wine and non-alcoholic drinks. And they don't charge a corkage fee, so you can come with some friends pick a bottle of wine and enjoy it. We are definitely going to have to come back.

Today I wandered in and ordered a 16oz iced spicy mocha with oatmilk— it was $7.89. I asked about a tip option and the barista kindly informed me that their staff makes a living wage and don’t accept tips. How rad is that!? I love the location and the ease of access while I’m out on a walk downtown. It was super worry-free to leave my dog outside in eyesight while I ran in to grab a drink! My iced mocha was hand-shaken and so frothy and delicious. What a treat!

World-class coffee (espresso drinks, filter coffee I’ve had too) and delightful pastries. During our 6 days in Bellingham, we came to Black Fern every day because we were so impressed with the coffee and service.
The barista remembered our order and preferences and made us feel welcome.
The shop is right on the water and next to a park and the space inside is also nice and comfortable.

Do yourself a favor and head to Black Fern. The coffee is great. The food is delicious (currently munching on their beet salad as I type). The vibe is welcoming. I especially love their vegan and gluten free baking, although I am neither vegan nor gluten free. I could eat the vegan pumpkin loaf for every meal.

Absolutely the best, without a doubt, baked goods in Bellingham! Worth the stroll down from anywhere downtown on a sunny day to enjoy a great coffee and an amazing scone. Super chill vibes on the patio overlooking the bay. Come for a cup of coffee and DO NOT forget a scone!

Nice little coffee shop hidden away in the Granary Building next to the Waterfront Park. We went there too late, after 2 pm, so the kitchen was closed. Menu looks unique and coffee options are some of the same and some unique. Definitely coming back. Small gifts also available. The view of the Whatcom Creek Waterway is just outside. Lots of area to walk around, a small rocky beach and small park for kids.

I love the location, the interior, and the vibe. My pastry was awesome, albeit a bit overpriced. Unfortunately, there were a couple of things that may keep me from becoming a regular. First, as someone who usually grabs a coffee to-go, the quality of the coffee itself is at the top of my "must have" list. My cappuccino was actually more of a latte - heavy on the milk, and lacking a nice espresso flavor and bite. The total after taxes for the pastry and the coffee was over $11 (October 2022). Despite this, I asked where the tip jar was, and was informed that the employees are "paid a living wage, so the tip is included in the prices." Translation: "You just paid an artificially high price and gave an automatic, generous, unspecified tip." This, along with the coffee, left a bad taste in my mouth. I am an excellent tipper and have many friends who make their livings in tip-dependent jobs, but I've grown weary over the years of forced or high-pressure tipping situations. For that kind of money, a place should ensure that each barista understands how to make a common espresso drink! I'll likely give it another shot or two, though, as the location can't be beat for my particular downtown routine. I want to love you, Black Fern!

Black Fern is so fun and bright! We love to combine a visit for tasty drinks and delicious Gluten Free baked goods with a trip to the pump track or waterfront playground. Great views, family friendly, and a nice place to set up my computer to work remote. Thanks for the GF treats, Black Fern, we can't wait to return!

I’ve been here twice to work in the cafe space. The overall feel is relaxed and comfy, with plenty of padded benches/chairs and a central communal type table. Overall nice for remote workers or study groups. Prices might seem high but they pay their workers a livable wage. If you don’t like that, some come here - but the employees are being taken care of.
So far I had the house chai with oat milk and a loose leaf tea. Both good, but would recommend giving out a saucer for tea drinkers so they don’t oversteer their tea. I only removed a star for the tea and because with the cash register being so close to the front door, it is constantly opening and closing, and now that it’s November it can feel like an icebox inside!
