Whenever I want coffee and breakfast I try to find a new coffee shop that I haven’t tried yet. The food did not disappoint!! I got the grits topped with turkey bacon scallions honey and an egg. I’m already thinking about when I’m going to be getting it again! Also I misunderstood the ordering system so I couldn’t get the baked good that I wanted but the owner threw in an extra for free. Excellent experience! I don’t love the coffee but I’m going to assume that that’s just personal preference and that the coffee is fine lol!!

I love that the West End has our own coffee shop gem now! The food is delicious. Special treats are on constant rotation, so there’s always something new to try. The fresh-squeezed OJ is a must! Note that there is no seating here, so it’s not the spot to bring a book or a laptop and stay awhile.

**edit: there is seating now! Even better!**

Unreal. The food is spectacular, the coffee is delicious. Service is excellent. You can taste the love and care in everything that’s made here. 10/10 recommend, will 100% be back

Great atmosphere for a coffee shop and a hidden gem out in the West end. Great selection of drinks and local baked goods. A lot of delicious food made in house whether it's a sausage egg and cheese or their delicious pulled pork bowl. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly every time I have visited. They are always playing a killer selection of music.

Very happy to have found this place. My new favorite cafe after a single visit. Great food, coffee and service. Highly recommended.

I was up and about earlier than usual and thought I would look for a local place to stop for breakfast.

I ordered the Steamy Pete coffee and chorizo and egg. The coffee was amazing, not bitter, and the food was just as good.

The seating area is small and decorated with coffee magazines and other reading material.

Went to Surrounding Countries for the second time this morning and was super disappointed. Upon arrival the girl behind the counter got an attitude when I said I would like to do their kind of “build your own latte” and I asked for a latte with sweeten condensed milk in. She said “we can’t steam that” and I told her I didn’t want it steamed, just added like a syrup (a cafe con leche) she then switched to “we can’t use the SCM for that” which seems incredibly…weird? You have it, boast a “build your own latte” of sorts and you won’t use it? We finally settled on iced lattes with flavoring. My boyfriend and I both asked for oat milk. Because we had also ordered food, we sat down by the sandwich prep and waited. I watched as she added syrup to two cups, and pulled out a pitcher of premixed coffee and milk, and added it to the cups. Iced them, and then handed them to us. I paid almost $6 a latte for a premixed coffee and milk drink? I even questioned her on the milk, as it tasted very whole milky and not oat. She assured me it was oat. Our kolaches were delicious and while we were eating she brought us two quarter sized cookies, I assume since she knew she had gotten things off on the wrong foot. All in all our breakfast was $27 before tip and lacked the artisan flavor and quality they boast. I’d give them one more shot, maybe 2/3 will be best for them 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thankful to have a good coffee shop & breakfast spot in the west end. Menu changes frequently, and they offer a lot of unique flavor combos. Staff is super friendly! We grew up in the TX area, so we like to think we know kolaches lol! SC’s are good, but room for improvement. Love the craftsmanship, but the savory kolaches (w/ meat) have been underdone more than once. A bit pricey at $5 a pop, and more on the “bready” side. We are excited to try their other b fast items (like savory grits and grain bowls). They also feature Chewy’s bagels (rosemary & sea salt is so good!). Coffee is very good (both speciality drinks and espresso); they feature Lamplighter’s coffee and Proud Mary. There is a LOT going on inside the shop, with so many menu printouts with unclear prices and offerings tbh. Took a visit or two to get it all figured out. Overall, this place is definitely worth a visit. We continue to support local, and know places like this will continue to get better with our support!

First visit, we picked up some carryout breakfast this morning, Ultimate Cheese Grits and Traveller's Eggs. This place has the vibe of a great locally owned city restaurant, the kids were spinning vinyl on a pair of turntables built out behind the food prep area. The food was outstanding, i am delighted to have this spot close to home, will definitely be back.
