Coalescence Coffee Company: A Community-Oriented Coffee Shop

If you're looking for a coffee shop that not only serves great coffee but also gives back to the community, Coalescence Coffee Company is the place to be. This coffee shop is a not-for-profit organization that aims to build a genuine community in Norfolk, Virginia. Their commitment to seeing the city flourish is evident in the quality of their coffee and the warm atmosphere they provide.

The baristas at Coalescence Coffee Company are passionate about the journey of understanding the chemistry behind an excellent cup of coffee. They are obsessed with the pursuit of perfecting extraction, refining their skills as baristas, and constantly pushing the boundaries of beverage creation. Whether you're in the mood for a classic latte or a unique signature drink, you won't be disappointed with their offerings.

The shop's interior is bright, open, and full of natural light, making it a great place to study, work, or chat with friends. They also reserve their rooms for private events for a reasonable fee. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, making you feel at home as soon as you walk in.

Coalescence Coffee Company offers a variety of gluten-free baked goods, pastries, and cookies that are uncommon. They also have a limited selection of quiches that are pleasantly surprising. However, some customers have noted that their pastry selection is minimal.

Overall, Coalescence Coffee Company is a great place to enjoy quality coffee, chill on wifi, and relax. Their attention to detail in brewing quality pour-overs and consistently producing quality coffee products sets the bar high and makes an impact on the coffee community at large.

The coffee here is first rate, and the staff are very nice. Something that many people don’t realize is that a latte can be served at a ready to drink temperature, and this place is one of the few that has taken the time to perfect that craft. It might seem insignificant, but trust me, it makes a huge difference. Cheers!

Giving it a 5 even though I cannot warm up to light roasts. Barista (very helpful and friendly) informed me that even their espresso is made with a light roast. (Scratching head -- by definition an espresso roast is a dark roast) Lights are very acidic, (and yes I know, more complex...)

Anyway... testament to how great this place is otherwise. Spacious. Neat, minimalistic but comfortable furniture. Can always find a place to brood. Neat industrial chic neighborhood.

No coffee better than Coalescence in the area! Atmosphere is sleek, modern, IG approved.

Long story short, i’m filled with gratitude that the Owner, Jenny, had taken a lot of time out of her day today to help me fix an issue I was having with my pour over. She took the time to essentially train and educate me on many different nuances of coffee brewing and was so kind and honest throughout.
What could have been a simple exchange of coffee grounds or debit, turned into a wonderful learning experience. Thanks again Jenny and staff. I greatly appreciate your hospitality.

We had an amazing experience at Coalescence this morning! Got there around 7:30am and the place was perfectly inviting with calm jazz playing and tons of open, socially distanced seating options. The staff was super friendly and went through the whole menu with us to find the perfect drink and food options. The coffee is SUPER reasonably priced! Much less than surrounding coffee shops. This is in part due to the fact that Coalescence is a non-profit. They are able to invest their funds back into the community instead of paying off investors and other business-related expenses. The space is gorgeous and impeccably clean. The staff is eager to make you the perfect drink. And the food- oh my! Absolutely divine. We tried the chive cheddar scone (still warm), the rosemary lemon scone, and the almond cake. It is impossible to pick a favorite, as they were all incredible. But I couldn’t stop going back for more bites of the savory scone. We tried a Tier 3 pour-over & the Miel, as well as a straight shot of espresso, served with mineral water (so fancy!). One of the owners, Jenny, took the time to chat with us about the coffee shop and it’s origins as well as the intentional thought and effort behind each and every detail of the company. We will definitely be frequenting this awesome new gem in the up and coming railroad district (also known as Park Place neighborhood).

Cool and chill vibe! Friendly baristas made my first time there easy! They recommended their "not my gumdrop buttons!" which was full of flavor. Made me like I was at hout enjoying a gingerbread cookie in from of the fire! Would 100% go again!

If you’re in Norfolk, and you appreciate quality coffee, you have to try this new spot. It had just opened when I was there in July and I was super impressed. The staff was friendly and I appreciated the fact that they appeared to all be very well trained and precise. I got an iced latte and it was so smooth. I wish I lived closer to this coffee shop.

Very nice quiet place to chat with friends and family and enjoy a variety of coffee drinks (hot or cold). I was invited there to hear my cousin sing. We enjoyed our time there. It is a nice place to have a small gathering. I am thing about our next event.
