A lot of places are closed on Monday, and that could be a very good thing—analogous to being out for a sail in the Chesapeake Bay and finding you have to race a storm inland—and finding yourself in a beautiful new harbor you had never visited before. Angie’s Cafe was my harbor for lunch today, I was really happy with this new “port,” which is open for lunch until three p.m.

Angie’s is owned by a Puerto Rican with a very happy talent for decorating, so the dining area is as pretty as the food is delicious. Located in the Stoney Run complex, which boasts several other very dependable restaurants, it has been in business for a year and a half already.

Angie’s Cafe makes almost all the beautiful pastries on display—except for the very attractive Danish pastries that they bring in for the less daring clientele. Puerto Rican pastries use more exotic flavors—Guava, Dolce de Leche, even Nutella! It is worth a visit just to admire the pastry, but the sandwiches of course are good for you!

Also noteworthy is the coffee, for although admittedly it is not Puerto Rican—another story—don’t hesitate to ask—the choice is an excellent medium-bodied Costa Rican that is ground in-house. I found it rich enough for excellent iced coffee with my lunch!

The Manager/Chef/Waitress, very gracious, capable and attractive young Puerto Rican, admits to being homesick for the mountainous countryside she grew up in, but she says today she feels it is safer to live in Newport News with her daughter!

I expect to return often when I am in Newport News at lunchtime—I think it is only about three miles from my house, but of course one usually dines at home when one is not out of town. But I certainly recommend the entire dining experience to everyone!

It was our first visit to Angie's Cafe. We ordered Nutella frappe, white chocolate mocha and dirty chai latte and their pastries. Everything was so delicious and fresh. The owner was very friendly. We will be back!

Sweet lady who i believe is the owner :) She's very kind and helpful. I actually don't like coffee but my husband loves coffee, especially local coffee shops. We found this place while searching for good local pastries and coffee while vacationing.

OMG, these coffee/pastries! 🤩I had the iced caramel macchiato with almondmilk and my husband had the iced dark chocolate latte. We had the Nutella pastry, guava & cream cheese as well as the the chicken panini. When in, ask to have the pastries warmed a little. The coffee is outstanding, the pastries were a delight and not overly sugary. My husband said his panini was fresh and delicious. I do wish the music was on for more environment experience, however it was still wonderful. Pretty little place and love they had games to play while you wait such as tic tac toe, jenga, dominos and checkers.

Oatmilk is an option as well and the pastries offered daily are various.

I had the chai latte with their flan. If you liked tasting more tea in your chai latte this is it for you. The flan is so creamy as well. The owner is so nice and kind, please support her business!

The coffee was very good but I think overpriced for the small size. The paninis were simple and way too overprice for one slice of three meat and a little bit of lettuce and tomato. TBH the Nutella Frappe was the best item I got from there . They didn't fulfill my expectations. Other than that the place and atmosphere is really good and welcoming

Such a cute little cafe!
I guess the owner is hispanic, so they serve espresso drinks, danishes and paninis, as well as empanadas, flan and limbers- which is SO cool. The lady who took my order was amazing and super friendly (not the owner, just a 10/10 employee).
There's a good chance I'll eventually become a regular here, haha!

I ordered a Nutella Frappe. Being it specifically said Nutella, I was excited for a Nutella flavored drink. When I walked over to the side to pick it up, she was putting Hershey chocolate in it. The drink tasted like chocolate milk, as if no form of coffee was mixed it. Never going again.
