Best coffee in the state, coolest and best curated book selection, sexy-smart owners. Go. There’s simply no better place for caffeine.

Best coffee in New England! Every time I'm in the area I stock up on their beans. The shop itself is so cute and pleasant and the owners are very knowledgeable about coffee (without being snobby!) and really nice to talk to. I really can't recommend Duchess highly enough!

A small cute coffee place, owned by a couple who brews and sells their own coffee right here.
They were super friendly and have a couple of tables to sit at outside.
Inside is very serene looking, and they sell books and a random assortment of various products. I only wish they had something more eye-catching outside, since I didn't notice they've been here for a long time already.

Beautiful place but the was charged $1.25 for barely a splash of milk and I asked for sugar and small splash of something and she was going to charge me again. Just shocking to me, I couldn’t even add my own sugar because no stirrers available. I’ve worked in multiple coffee shops and I didn’t care for the service (wasn’t very friendly) or blah coffee. I Won’t return.

We stopped by Duchess Coffee on our way back to NYC and it was the highlight of our day! The coffee was amazing - proper espresso based coffee. I was blown away to see them use refrigerated oatmilk (Chobani) since every other cafe I've been to uses long-life/non refrigerated dairy alternatives. We had a nice chat with the owner and ended up buying a couple of bags of coffee beans as well (excited to try it out!). And the cafe itself has a greta vibe - light, bright and airy with a comfy couch and books curated by the owners. If we were locals, we'd be regulars.

The best coffee in Vermont. Carefully roasted and delicious coffee drinks. I also love the Duchess Grey latte (tea drink) so you will be able to find something there that is delicious. Great pastries also and I forgot to mention that the books are amazing. All around the best place to get coffee in southern Vermont.

The barista was friendly and knowledgable, answering all of my questions about the different coffees. My macchiato was delicious. My wife had a chai latte. The barista took the time to steep the chai fresh instead of using some concentrate. They even use fresh local ginger. The care put into their beverages was highly evident.

Love this place. Great espresso and interesting selection of books.

Best coffee I've had, and an amazingly well curated bookstore. Such a treat!

Here, in no particular order, is a non comprehensive list of things that I love about Duchess Coffee:

1) Their mission to purchase coffee from women led farms and cooperatives means that my addiction is also doing some amount of good in the world.

2) The coffee is amazing. Jeremy has gone full otaku for coffee and brings so much knowledge and care to the roasting process that the specific qualities of each variety really shine. I love the different flavors and subtle notes that come out in each cup.

3) It’s because of Duchess that I started caring about and paying attention to how the coffee is processed, not just how it is roasted and brewed.

4) Ruth and the other baristas are personable, responsive, and really know their stuff, particularly when it comes to espresso.

5) The best espresso I have ever had. Sweet, round, potent, complex. Happiness in a tiny cup.

6) The space is really pretty. They’ve avoided the typical look that specialty coffee retailers have converged on over the past decade and created a well lit, nicely coordinated cafe that is clean and contemporary.

If you are ever in Brattleboro from 8 AM to 4 PM, Wednesday through Sunday, and you need a good cup of coffee and/or an interesting book (they sell books too) you really should go to Duchess Coffee.
