Pricey but worth it. This is a one-man operation of incredible quality. Go in with an open mind. I asked what he would recommend and he said the espresso, so that’s what I went with. It came out to $11.91 after tax, which is confusing because other espresso-based drinks like the cortado were only $7, but I’m not complaining. It was a memorable experience.
I wish I had time for a siphon but he said that requires at least an hour to do it justice.

This is some of the best coffee I've ever had. If you've got the time to sit down for the siphon brew, it is an experience worth having. The owner is extremely knowledgeable and refuses to serve you anything but the absolute best he can do. It may be pricier than what you're used to paying for coffee, but it is undoubtedly worth it

$90 for three different siphon coffees, that all tasted pretty much the same (we drink coffee a lot from all over the world), I would have expected a better quality, more unique bean at that price point (especially the $42 cup of Ethiopian). Expect to spend about an hour drinking said cup of coffee as well if there are available seats at the bar to have the siphon coffee. John is very knowledgeable about the coffee industry and business, however I think he could be more open and receptive to his customers tastes and opinions.

Just moved to SLC and was looking for good espresso and found this place. It’s a one man show (roasts, makes & serves) and espresso is just deliciously smooth!
Simple, elegant cafe in downtown serving fine coffee. Added to my favorites and would stop by soon again.

After reading other reviews, there is a theme occurring.
Rude owner.
Good coffee.
I’m not a coffee connoisseur by any means, but I’m not a rookie either. I was scrutinized with attitude for requesting a quad espresso shot which immediately created an uncomfortable environment.
Another note, I noticed that the quality of milk used was generic. If the owner is going to take pride in the coffee beans and brewing process, hold that standard across all the ingredients.
Lastly and most importantly, create a friendly environment and be patient with the customers.

There's not many words I can describe the coffee experience here. I thought I had good coffee before, and at least I thought it was good...until John here showed me a new experience. It was smooth, silky, it tasted like perfection. A lot of places, chains mostly don't get the ratios right, or just straight out have burnt coffee to serve. This man though, he is the craft. Watching him work his magic, what he called basic science was wonderful. I may be from out of town, but I know I'd have a great place to go to once I return to Salt Lake City.

The owner was very rude and made claims of having the “best coffee in North America”. We turned around and left. Hard to have good coffee experience when the service is pretentious, even if it is the best coffee.

Best coffee in SLC. The owner has an incredible appreciate for fine food and fine taste, so he has dedicated years to making sure he knows his stuff about coffee. Best beans, best roasting, best coffee. Get the espresso shot! They will have different flavors/beans depending on the season, but it is made SO well that you can taste all the notes and it is so so smooth. Perfect spot for genuine coffee lovers.

Excellent coffee here! Really like nothing I have ever had. The siphon method is something totally new to me but I enjoyed it. The owner is EXTREMELY knowledgeable about coffee. Super helpful and informative. Cant wait to come back!

Quite possibly the best espresso I have ever tasted even after traveling across continents looking.
While a bit more than usual it is an experience worth every penny guaranteed.
