I placed an order for a special on the wrong day. When I arrived Josie politely informed me of my mistake and offered a refund or to make something else in itā€™s place. She then offered me a free drink while I waited and even offered a beer! I canā€™t remember the last time I received such exceptional service and I dine in the Hewitt area frequently. The food has also been amazing each time no matter what I order.

From a distance in darkness; the place looked like a trendy upscale establishment: but we could easily see as I parked that it's a homey, come-as-you-are-type eatery...that is obviously prepared for a wait time, as the ample number of waiting chairs indicates. I am sometimes sensitive to restaurant food, but I relished my shrimp tacos with no after-discomfort whatsoever. The shrimps were big and perfectly fried, and the herb-y ranch-type dressing is a fitting complement. Service was pleasantly fast between work and Wednesday church, and our server was acceptably attentive. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her bowl of clam chowder and hot chocolate drink [after it had been re-warmed], so this place is definitely on a repeat list for us...and a recommendation for folks who come to visit.

Since the day it opened, we've been fans of Brown House Cafe. This is probably one of my favorite places to get breakfast for dinner and them serving Black Rifle Coffee is the cherry on top. The staff is always extremely friendly and the environment is very relaxing. The convenient location is nice so we're not driving all the way into town. We look forward to many more meals here!

Great food and pie selection. The no coffee left an hour before closing was a little much. It's the cheapest and easiest drink to make.

Amazing little gem! We are in Waco to camp and our griddle didnā€™t work so we stopped here, it was DELICIOUS, the staff was so nice and kind, the restaurant is very clean and our food came out quickly. Highly recommended, will stop by again when in town!

Decent place, kitsch deco but who cares. The food is food.

The issue is seating- we have been lied to repeatedly about the wait time- get this: because we have a baby. If you bring a stroller, they will only seat you in very specific spots, as if they are divinely ordained to withstand the gravity of a stroller and child. Butā€¦ and hereā€™s the kickerā€¦ they donā€™t tell you this. So you will arrive, be told ā€œ10 minutesā€ then wait much longer in the front, with your (hopefully) calm baby, whilst several parties, smaller and larger, that arrived after you will be seated. Well after the mentioned 10 minutes. Expectation control is key, people.

2 stars if you want a good time
5 stars if you want to steam yourself into a juicy anger coronary attack.

Have to give the food 4 stars because one of my pancakes were doughy

This is that special mom and pop country restaurant that you're looking for. Always consistently great food and service, specials everyday, and wonderful desserts. We take our family here everytime they come and visit cause there's something to eat for everyone.
