I really REALLY enjoyed our Rio Grande kayak tour, and believe me, I'm not a kayak girl. I'm actually pretty terrified of deep water. My husband even asked me not to cry when we were going on that tour. I didn't!! I loved it! Rapids weren't really rapids, so I felt pretty safe there, and other parts of Rio grande were like floating on lazy river( just missed drink in my hand) Olivia and two other guides were so easy going, fun and helpful!!! I totally recommend Far Flung and I'm looking forward to go back and do more fun things with them!

We stayed in a Casita. It was a great experience. Comfortable, clean, rockers on the front porch and friendly staff. I would love to return to the area just to stay there again. We also took one of the Jeep tours. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable, made the eight hour tour very enjoyable. We were served a nice lunch on the tour.

The single day boating tours are not as impressive as they sound.
We expected a lot and they took us to some parts of the river in the Big Bend State Park, whereas the Canyons in the National Park had much better views. I would give 2.5 stars for the trip itself.
Lovely staff and boat guides, though. 5 stars for them!

This place is AWESOME!!! If you come all the way to this corner of Texas, you NEED to do one of their activities or stay in the cabins. The cabins were PERFECT. We are not much for camping or roughing it, and these cabins had all the modern amenities we could ask for, plus a beautiful view of the stars at night. The staff on site was also very helpful, friendly, and responsive. The 360 Jeep tour and Half Day float were incredible. The guides are extremely knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. Hands down the best experience all around; highly recommend this place.

We went on the ATV tour. Jennifer was our guide. She was awesome. She was very knowledgeable about the area, plants, rock formations, etc! Highly recommend!

Cannot say enough about the Casitas at Far Flung! We stayed there for 3 nights and will definitely come back. They have such attention to detail. The room is so lovely, and clean. The beds are comfy and the sheets are very soft. The room has everything you need. They have gas grills you can cook out on and they are very clean and well maintained. They have rocking chairs on each porch and the are a great place to sit and drink your morning coffee or remember the adventures of the day. They also have a Bible in your room and I really appreciate that. This place is a class act and we will never stay anywhere else.

Far Flung helped us have a great trip down the Rio Grande! The boats were exactly what the river called for, and the guide who ran our shuttle was friendly and knowledgeable.

Highly recommend. Half day jeep tour day 1 and full day float day 2 (Santa Helena.) Everybody was VERY friendly, and spending time with them, it is obvious the ALL love their job. We will have a great time with folk like that. See to be another couple of outfitters in town, and they may be good - but you cant go wrong here. Just did guided trips, but can only imagine they have same TLC for lodging side of biz.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the casitas at Far Flung. I selected this location because it is close to the Big Bend National Park and the excursions offered by them are really well done. Most of the outings leave right from the main building and they provide the transportation to and from the area. Each outing is conducted by local guides. We felt safe knowing that they're familiar with the river, the desert and the potential dangers each one holds. The guides told interesting stories about desert life, the flora and fauna we encountered and imparted fascinating details for the duration of our outing. The accommodations were clean, well built and just the right amount of rustic. I've included some detailed pictures here, that should give you an idea of the general set-up. The desert decor touches were especially well done.
One other noteworthy matter; remember that Big Bend is in the desert, so desert rules apply. Water conservation is very important, so we had to adjust our thinking a bit. Showers and teeth brushing were kept brief. The casitas, by the way, are made with cedar and smell spectacular inside. Definitely a trip we'll be making again!

If you are looking for a GREAT and affordable place to stay in the Big Bend area, or just an outfitter for your adventures, look no further than Far Flung Outdoor Center.
My husband & I and two friends just left the Big Bend Casitas after a great week-long stay. From the point of planning our trip to our checkout, every interaction we had with Far Flung was top notch! Greg, Valynda, & Caitlynn patiently answered all our questions and helped us choose the activities that best fit our party of four.
The casitas are well planned, stocked, and comfortable. We actually brought more than we needed to, based on cabins we have rented elsewhere.
I can’t say enough good things about their facility: the large grilling station with side burner and commercial grill (clean and much better than cooking meals inside the casitas!), shaded picnic tables, Bocce ball court, horseshoes, corn hole, fire pit, sparkling clear pool. We loved their plant identification tags! (They have thought of everything!)
We were in Big Bend to ride the area on our motorcycles, but booked two adventures with Far Flung. First was a full day River Float. Zulu, our guide, was skilled, knowledgeable, and FUN. He was obviously very experienced and also good at reading, teaching, and interacting with our group. Our raft traveled with another, guided by Levee. The two guides worked well together, making for a fun trip for all of us!!
Our second adventure was a 3 hour Jeep tour to the Buena Suerte mining ghost town. Randy was our knowledgable guide. Aside from educating us on the mine itself, Randy taught us about numerous plants, showing how some were used for medicinal use.
One last comment (compliment). I am so impressed with the cleanliness of Far Flung! I dropped a little water on the floor when unloading the contents of our cooler into the fridge. The paper towel I used to wipe the floor was totally white after the wipe up. Y’all, this is remarkable given the dry, dusty terrain! And did I mention the T-shirt / hoodie selection?!!
