Far Flung Outdoor Center

A very knowledgeable and affable guide: animals, geology, local folklore. The drive out to canoe launch was full of tips, stories, and info. Canoe ride is mostly float though it did pass us over 2 rapids - a little bit of a nail biter for me as I am not an experienced canoeist. The guide worked hard to try to ensure all canoes made it through- and we did! Lots of little (non biting) bugs that want to fly in your face. I think wrap around sunglasses and hat were useful to me.

Didn't go on a tour with these guys (we independently hiked Big Bend) but we stayed at their casitas. Lodging at Far Flung Outdoor Center is the best bang for your buck anywhere in Terlingua. The cabins are very clean and well taken care of, house keeping does a fantastic job cleaning up (sorry we brought in mud, it was raining and you can't keep the mud off your pants while hiking!) and the amenities are fantastic. Nothing better than taking off in the morning and coming back in the evening to a freshly swept floor, clean towels, clean kitchen, cozy cabin! Outside is well landscaper and also really clean, wish we would have had time to grill, but hiking 15 miles a day kicks your butt! Stay here, you will not regret it!

Great cabins, spacious, most the comforts of home in a quiet area of an under appreciated area of the National Parks system. 4 wheel drive not necessary but preferred.

We did a open air Jeep tour of Big Bend in Sept 2019 and stayed onsite in a casita; and a half day kayak trip on the Rio Grande in July 2020. Both experiences were GREAT!!

Great jeep tour! Ladies in the office were friendly and helpful with reservation. Our tour guide, John, was very friendly, knowledgeable, and gave us a great lunch!

We had Randy for our guide and he was amazing. He explained each plant and rock formations. Very relaxed and we learned so much. Highly recommended.

What a wonderful time my family and I had rafting along the Santa Elena Canyon. Views were amazing, guides were knowledgeable and an added hike topped of the experience. Definitely recommend the full day adventure; can’t wait to go back!

If you go to the Big Bend, this is the place to stay. We did several tours including ATV and river kayaking, great experience.

Very accommodating staff and trip guides for half-day, 1 & 2 day river excursions. No prior experience needed to enjoy (or rather soak) the Rio Grande paddling.

Randy was a great guide for our ATV tour!!!! Great conversation and sharing of his knowledge of the area. Highly recommend!!!
