I just spent 3 nights at the Far Flung Outdoor Center. We had a fantastic time! By all means this is the best place to stay in Terlingua, Tx. There are others around town but none of them come close to the quality, cleanliness, and all around good accomodations. The staff was very friendly, inviting, and helpful. We did a 1/2 day river trip one day and a Jeep rental another. Piece of advise, in my opinion the 1/2 day river trip is plenty of time to experience the Guadalupe River and canyons. Also, please do not let the "street view" photos fool you, they are not up to date. However, if you have access to Google Earth you can see the cabins much better. I have also taken many pictures of the scenery and cabins and have uploaded them to Google Maps so I hope they will show up soon for future Big Bend area and Terlingua vistors to see and experience to be able to more better make a decision as to where to stay. Thank you F.F.O.C!! We had a GREAT time and will cherish the Memories!

Sincerely,

Shared the wonders and love of the Big Bend area so I gained an appreciation for a part of Texas almost unknown to me.

We had a great time for a bachelor party. Laid back, fun, and safe. Scenic, educational, ecological cultural appreciation of the border region. Call ahead to get the best options regarding water level and run times. We'll be headed back to do the Santa Elana Canyon when we can! #vivaterlingua

Positives: the guide was very good, and the tour gave a good full day overview of the park. The center arranged pickup from the little airstrip 3 miles from their office which was appreciated. The lunch was, as others have said, well put together.

Negatives: The website makes a big thing of the "Jeep Tour" being special as it's run in an old open top Jeep. They present this as a differentiator against their competitors, and it's the reason I chose this tour (costing more than $200 per person). It was a big disappointment then to be bundled into a dirty Hummer with small tinted windows offering a poor view, not at all what was promised. Very much a "bait and switch" deal as one can't exactly change plans and find a different tour when you're already there and ready to go.

If you want a Jeep tour, this might not be the place to go.

Cozy, comfy, clean little houses in pretty surroundings, with everything you need in kitchen and bath for a refreshing stay. Our new favorite lodging for our trips to Big Bend! with my dad John Roe and husband Kurt.

Jake and Randolph took great care of us on the 1/2 day trip. Super cool, knowledgeable, and hard working young men. They went above and beyond to ensure our trip was memorable.

Stayed here for 2 nights in June '14 and it couldn't have been a better experience! Our expactations were far suceeded and we regreted not staying longer. The cabins are charmin, qiuet and very clean. We loved sitting on the veranda and enjoying the warm summer night.
Haven't stayed at any other place in the area but I'm pretty sure it's the best deal you can get!
We also did a half day paddle trip on the Rio Grande and had lot's of fun! We're really looking forward to our next visit to the Big Bend Area and we will choose Far Flung as our base for sure!

This is the place to stay in Terlingua even if you are not doing an adventure. Cute casitas to stay in with wonderful courtyards and back porches to enjoy. Full kitchenette. Place is immaculate and the attention to every detail is amazing. Very well run establishment. Friendly staff. And the Mexican place next door has amazing food. Enjoyed every minute here!

The casitas were very good and I recommend staying there. The river trip was low value for the money. I took the so called "half day river trip", however, the actual time we spent floating on the river was close to an hour or a little more (I was taken by surprise, in the sense that I did not expect it to be that short, so did not accurately time it). We left the Far Flung center around 1:20 pm and arrived at the river 40 minutes later, then there was the unloading of the equipment, followed by safety instructions and getting everyone into the canoes and on the river. Five minutes after getting on the river, we were asked to portage our canoes because of the shallow water which wasted about 20 minutes or so, then we started canoeing again and after about half an hour there was a snack stop (completely unnecessary since the trip was so short) which wasted another half an hour or so. We then got back onto the water and canoed for about half an hour tops and that was it. For ~$80/person, that is very low value for the money. A good value would be ~4 hours of actual canoeing time and that would also be more inline with calling it "Half Day Trip".
