Great coffee, decor and you can’t beat the location - right inside the iconic Half Price Books off 75/Northwest Hwy in Dallas.
Only quibble is the music! You cannot play Metal y’all. Seriously? Had to wear headphones to survive.

This coffee shop has fantastic sweets! The serving size is awesome. The coffee selection is limited but the baristas prepare excellent espresso and machiattos. It's great to grab some new book at HPB and start to read it at Black Forest Coffee. Perfect place to spend a rainy afternoon which it was the day I visited.

Staff was courteous. The seating was a little sparse, but the prices were low. Compared to the Starbucks across the street. You can access it from both outside and within the half price book store. The tables were slightly messy with a few crumbs on a table.

Coffee here is great.
Made quick and tasty by baristas who clearly understand what they are doing.
You can read a book as well from half price bins

I love having this place nearby. They have a reasonably priced drink menu with good seasonal offerings, good baked items, ample seating, and nice employees. Open late, and inside a large bookstore, so you can get a drink and sit with a book for as long as you want. Good wifi connection, too.

I like this place! As far as coffee shops go..the prices are reasonable, the delicacies are amazing and delicious and the baristas are seriously cool and friendly! AND its inside my favorite book store in the world - Half Price Books flagship store!!!

The food is actually pretty good and affordable! Menu items (for food, drink and desserts) are abundant and creative. Highly recommend the tiramisu with the brandy shot and the almond chocolate Florentine cookies! Chill vibes as it’s next to half price books.

The place looks old and it is very odd. It feels like going to a coffee shop in la Havana. They have good coffee, friendly staff and wide variety. The place is located inside of half price books store.

Cup of coffee while I shop around at Half-Price? Yes please.
Honestly, the coffee house isn't much. It's attached to Half Price and I'm not sure if the hours are different or not... I didn't really check this place out to much, I just ran in and grabbed my coffee, then went out.
Service was ok, the coffee was good, and the book selection is FANTASTIC!

Review for Coffee Shop for Writing, Working, Journaling
I come here when I drop into Half Price books with the family, but that is not the context of this review.
I am reviewing Black Forest Coffee for the purpose of getting work done.
I write a lot, and find that coffee shops offer the right mix of solitude and stimulation for generative output.
PROS:
1. Black Forest Coffee reminds me of the coffee shops of my youth growing up in Bay City, Michigan. It has got some grit, heady conversations and lot's of reading (due to literally being inside Dallas's largest bookstore).
2. Good coffee, good price
3. Spill out seating in Half Price Books
4. People watching
5. Coffee is always made and ready, not much time spent waiting
6. Appropriate level of introversion in the atmosphere (can work uninterrupted)
CONS:
Everything that I could complain about, I kind of like about this place. A little grungy... some wobbly tables... kind of uncomfortable chairs... people smoking near the entrance...
Reminder: This is not a review of the bakery items, the customer service, a full menu or a lunch spot. This is a review for people who are looking for a place to work in a spot with some stimulation and some privacy and some good coffee.
