You will need:

  • medium-coarse grind coffee beans50g of your favorite coffee beans, medium-coarse grind
  • filtered water700ml of filtered water, just off the boil

Instructions

  1. First, rinse your Chemex filter with hot water. This is to remove any paper taste from the filter. Discard the rinse water afterwards.
  2. Next, add your coffee to the filter. Make sure it's spread evenly for a uniform extraction.
  3. Slowly pour just enough water (about 150ml) over the grounds to wet them evenly. This is called the 'bloom' stage, where the coffee releases carbon dioxide. Wait for about 30 seconds.
  4. Gradually add the rest of the water in a circular motion, keeping the water level consistent. This ensures all the coffee grounds are saturated and extracted evenly.
  5. Once all the water has filtered through, remove the filter. Your coffee is now ready to serve. Enjoy it immediately for the best taste.
