I really wanted to give this place a great review based on its rate score from previous guest. However, when you first walk in, this place has a down home, laid back vibe, and it was crowded and monothematic in its presence. (brown and more brown everywhere). I wasn't impressed at all. I was greeted by the hostess and was told it would be a few minutes before I could be seated. A minute or two later, the waitress took me to my table. The table and chairs look old and uninviting, and guess what...brown. Hmmm...I'm not getting a good vibe of this place at all. Remember when I stated it was crowded? Well, yep. I tolerated listening to several young children screaming and crying while I tried to give my order to the waitress. I know its not the childrens fault, but maybe they were just as unimpressed and stressed as I was. Anyway, I ordered the French Toast with chicken sausage, grits and scrambled eggs, and a coffee. The wait took about 10 minutes...okay not a big deal. But when I got my food, again, visually, I was not impressed. It was brown except for my yellow scrambled eggs. The presentation was boring, my food was luke warm, and my coffee was bitter. Oh and the syrup container was covered in syrup droplets...seriously? See the photo I posted. That's just nasty. Please wipe them off. I had no tolerance between hearing screaming children, cold food, and an uninterested waitress to complain and ask that my food be remade. People have a certain expectation of how they like their food served and how flavorful it is. Brown House Cafe is lacking in visual presentation, its environment, and bland food. If it improves on these three basic things, then it might get more stars and a more well-deserved review, but for today, they get a one star.
If you like a restaurant with a hostess that has a condescending attitude that leaves you wondering how they have not terminated them yet, then you would like this restaurant

Waited almost an hour to get seated and I was getting no table, I don’t want to think they were being racist but I am Latino and all the white people coming after me was getting tables in no time and it looks like that was the case I hope that I am being mistaken but definitely looks like it and I am not going back to that place in my entire life
the food was a hit and my waitress was hot ! I like the diversity bhc!
My wife and I love this place! We've been numerous times, and we've always had great food and service here! One of the best things about this place is that they serve breakfast all day.
It was pretty busy at 11:00am Sunday. They said a 30 minute wait but it was only 20. I had the omelette and it was delicious!!
Outstanding. Excellent food and MUCH better than the chain-restaurants around town. Clean with good service.
Pancake (Blueberry) plate was good. Thicker cut bacon would have made it better. Great Service.
Wonderful place to eat, great food. I'm personally not a fan of only tables and chairs. I love a nice booth but I wouldn't let that stop me from eating here again.
The floors are horendous! So sticky makes you want to vomit. We got passed that ordered and you can get fried chicken at 730am but cant get fries when the 2yr old you have only eats fries! Refused to even ask the kitchen to make them! You can get a side of grits but cant get a bowl of them but you can pay for 2 sides of grits. This place makes NO sense at all!! So unhappy. The cinnamon roll is 6.00 each and flat as a pancake. They need some improvememt. To be so expensive it just needs help.
Had breakfast there and it was really good. The staff was very friendly.
Food tasted okay but wasn't warm when we got it. Waitress was fabulous.
Had a great meal with excellent service and delicious food! My husband had steak fingers and reports they were delicious, I had breakfast and, of course, had twice as much food as I could eat. It was great!

The food was good but wasn't great. The only problem is the waitress was not paying attention to us. We were a party of 2 and I watched 3 tables come in after us and leave before us. I am Willing to give it another shot just because of the food.
Breakfast served all day, daily specials. Great place to eat.
I had the the chop sirloin with mashed potatoes and fried okra and a delicious cheesecake. It was lunchtime and they are very busy. Get there early!
Update- The folks here must read the reviews! They have fixed the cold food on cold plates issue, so now it's a 5 star review!!! You want to like this place, but cold food will make you wonder what goes on in the kitchen. Hot pancakes, cold sausage, and burned toast, have us going less often than before...
