I love Jake & Dorothy’s which has been around ever since I can remember. They have wonderful breakfast items and other good items for lunch and dinner. A good place to eat.
Wonderful atmosphere. Great server! Kept glasses filled real well. Had the lunch specials. I had the catfish...delicious!! Hubby has the chicken fried steak.... was okay. Sides: awesome pinto beans and cornbread, waffle fries....didn't eat because not done enough, side salads good, coleslaw great, and chocolate cake okay. We'll come back on our next trip.
Such a fun lil diner. Tammy our server was sweet and personable.
After all the good ratings, this was very disappointing. My husband simply gave it a "thumbs down" which is sad because he got the chicken fried steak special. I had biscuits and gravy - and the biscuits were average. The white gravy was flavorless and gloopy, probably as tasty as wallpaper paste (not that I've eaten wallpaper paste). I ended up scraping the gravy off of my biscuits and using jelly instead. The waffle cut potatoes (which they're famous for) definitely needed seasoning, although it WAS a huge portion. The highlight was the carrot cake (that came with the lunch special). Very moist and flavorful, with good cream cheese frosting. The sweet tea was good too. The service was friendly and our server checked on us frequently. However, the food just wasn't very good, so we won't be back.
Lunch Specials are super! And the Tuesday night $1 burgers. A place where everyone knows your name... Lol
Nice small town diner. The food was all excellent. My wife had a BLT, which she enjoyed, and I had the chicken fried steak, which was cooked perfectly.
Had a delicious chicken fried steak and fries! Service was fast and awesome. Everyone was super friendly!!
The waitresses are the best! They make a point of remembering you! The ladies there are just awesome.. ❤️
Great local restaurant. Awesome Coconut pie! Stop by for $1 hamburger night.
Great service and great food!
Old restaurant with very nice down to earth staff.
Loved the old school feel of it, and the staff are wonderful! Super friendly. Best breakfast I've had in awhile
The house coffee is bold and strong but not bitter, a must for a morning cup! The food is amazing and filling. The sausage was a little dry and the gravy was a little on the bland side. Everything taste really fresh and the staff is on top of taking care of their customers. I would say this is better than many restaurants back home in the dallas area. For a small town family restaurant, it is a definite must stop by and try! P.S: they offer a XL chicken fried steak. They aren't kidding about the XL. Be hungry!
This is absolutely classic dinner cafe experience. Love the decor. The food was great service, which was even better. Very friendly folks here. Wish i was closer. This would be a frequent stop
Delicious. Little slice of Americana. Bacon was perfectly cooked 😋
Tuesday night is Burger Night. The cooks were slinging out delicious burgers, fries, and onion rings like gang busters, and the girls were serving them up with a smile! Abby served us well during a packed house. Sit at the bar if you have the opportunity... just think how many stories have been swapped there since 1948!!
"We're not responsible for any addictions" my waitress winked at me. I know I'll be back for more pie . CFS, HFS best breading on a CFS ever. Some times we come in and the gravy is from scratch other times you can tell the same person had the day off. Basically the only thing I get here is the hot steak. Thank you J&D, I dream to one day own this establishment or a diner like it. such a nostalgic place to be.
Great little cafe right off the beaten path. Had an excellent cheeseburger, that had to be pressed down just to eat it, and waffle fries. Service was really good, my cup stayed filled and the waitress checked on me several times. The restaurant was clean and it was good to see the staff helping each other out. Will definitely be returning.
Tender and delicious chicken fried steak. Gravy was underneath steak which was different but good. Be advised they close when they feel like it, not 11pm like the closing hours state. I was happy with our visit when it came to the food. But I will say they for sure are in no rush and doing whatever they want in the meantime. Waitresses (young) having loud personal conversations behind the counter, shouting from across the room instead of just walking over to ask if they are out of item on menu. Noone wants to hear all that when trying to enjoy their meal.
The sodas are way too expensive. I remember the days when Jake and Dorothy's was a little more expensive then peacocks, but the food and drinks were great and still cheap. Why can't we go back to the by gone days?
