Always an amazing time. Everybody knows our name and clearly loves where they work. Matt, the owner, treats everyone like family and it's such a great place to be! The food is always prepared well and tastes great. I've been coming here for over 15 years and it will forever be our breakfast spot!
Ya know when people talk about how awesome Austin used to be? This is what they are talking about. Landmark status please.
Love this cafe! Wanted to try after seeing and love the atmosphere and the Diner style reminds me of my hometown in Jersey. Servers are efficient and food is good. Affordable for what you get and coffee options are amazing. I love the hashbrowns here and strawberry pancakes. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a good solid breakfast/brunch destination!
Just got a "Whole Lotta love" latte iced to go. So good. It's such a cute little diner! I will come back and try to food. It was packed on a Monday morning which means it must be tasty!
I go here all the time. Good breakfast with the eggs cooked just the way I like them, not overcooked. String hash browns with a nice golden crisp. The pricing is what keeps me coming back.
Excellent food and service. Had the 2 x 2 x 2 pancake platter with scrambled eggs and sausage. The standout was the multi grain pancakes. Sturdy and flavorful and they have peanut butter to add, which is my favorite pancake topping. They came out hot from the grill and were exactly what I want when I want pancakes. Definitely on my regular rotation now. Edit: Remember to order the Mexican Eggs and Split Decision if they're not on the chalkboard. 🙂
10/10... Will definitely be back. Amazing food, great staff. The only complaint would be how loud it is inside
I came to Austin to visit my daughter and she raves about this place and said that I HAD to try it…so we did. This was the BEST breakfast food I’ve had in AUSTIN…and the customer service was. SPLENDIDLY the BEST! It’s a nice touch that the owner actually works there and makes his customers feel soooooo WELCOMED! Being from out of town, this was a great experience for me…I’ll be back on my return trip. THANKS MATT!!!
They were really busy this morning, but quick to greet us, quick to bring our food, and the food was delicious! To top it off, it's an Austin local business, incredibly affordable, and supports other local artists. Always one of my favorites. :)
Absolutely wonderful service. Greeted with a smile and welcomed in. Food was fantastic, I had the Java melt and the Vanilla Latte. Definitely recommend for a great time and VERY affordable options!

Literally the best breakfast spot in town. I would choose Cafe Java over any fancy breakfast place any day! The staff is always so friendly and welcoming too, that it just brightens my day! I always get the chorizo plate — it's the most delicious combo of beans, eggs, and buttery tortillas. They have so many options, that I've yet to try. Someday, I'll eat my way through the menu! They don't do reservations, so be sure to show up early to grab a table!
Super friendly teams and they are happy! A rare experience in today’s high paced high demand food industry. The pancakes were amazing and I am already craving them as I type. Give them a try!
Went for brunch on Sunday and everything we ordered was delicious!
Ordered food and then quickly walked out when the waitress was flossing her teeth by the drink station and then she moved into the kitchen still in full view. Then she sticks the plastic floss pick in her pocket, grabs menus, and then goes on about her business- no handwashing of any kind. I told the manager and he didn't seem to care he said oh I'll get right on it and he just sat there. The food has been going downhill anyway.
Perfect diner, you wouldn't know until you step inside. Always a good smile from the staff, great service perfect diner food and good coffee. Been there several times and never disappointed.
Great little spot for breakfast, brunch or lunch. They have such a nice variety of a menu that everyone can get some thing they like. And 99% of the visits staff is super friendly .
How am I just writing this? A family favorite of ours. We’re here a few times a month for breakfast. Busy but worth the wait and service is friendly and fast. Our favs- huevos rancheros w hashbrowns extra crispy, buttermilk pancakes (best in Austin), cinnamon roll, eggs Benedict (Sunday special only), french toast, egg sandwich, house blend coffee (we even bag the beans to brew at home). Breakfast and lunch menu all day, with dinner special rotation (see FB page for chalkboard specials each day). Family friendly, local, tasty, clean, friendly, local art, etc.!
Been enjoying Cafe Java since the day I moved to the neighborhood in May of 1996. Family owned and operated. Yum!!!
Busy place but the staff is efficient and friendly. My favorite dish is the scramble but the tacos are great too.
