At this point no one really needs to read a review. The food, caffeine, and alcohol is on point. The space is perfect. The vibe is hip, social, and deliberate. Oh and get the dang burger.
Completely overrated. You’ll find this restaurant on many lists if you Google search “best brunch in Austin”. Unfortunately, this place doesn’t live up to the hype. The food is mediocre at best, takes a long time to be served up, and the coffee is sub-par as well. Perhaps this place is better for a drink outside, but do not waste your time or your money here. Breakfast sandwich is totally blah. Chicken biscuit sandwich is too salty, and pancakes are too sour with the lemon paste thing. Also way too much blueberry. Also, the benches aren’t super clean.
The food was ok, but the service was not good. From start to finish, it seemed like every person working was bothered by us being there. We did not ask for much, and in fact, when asking for extra silverware, one of the servers (who had several packets of silverware on his delivery tray) outright said “oh these aren’t for you, you can go inside and find some in there.” Just not a good place for service. Probably won’t be coming back.
Fantastic food, nice atmosphere..coffee is not the best but good otherwise
The food and service are decent, but I don't think I would come back due to the long wait time for the food.
Excellent coffee, great outdoor seating and lots of it! I loved the Bunuelos. If you're a chocolate, cinnamon and orange flavor lover, you'll really like it. Dogs welcome too
Better half is such a vibe! We went for late lunch/happy hour. The sangria was so good! (Pictured). I had the spicy chicken sandwich and my friends had the big summer salad. I didn’t love the zucchini noodles in my sandwich, would probably skip next time. My friends didn’t love the dressing on the salads. I think next time we would share a few appetizers because the drinks were the main star of the show.
I'm so happy to have FINALLY eaten the cauliflower tots and burger at better half 🥹 the last time I went was for a quick happy hour with some coworkers after cyclebar, and I already had plans to eat with my friends so I sat there and just smelled how amazing everything was. This time, I finally got to have it myself. 🙌 the tots...I know they may seem intimidating, but they're LEGIT. Give it a try, it's amazing!
Pastrami loaded queso was excellent (although the presentation wasn't great Better half breakfast sandwich with bacon and guac was great but gets more expensive than it looks on the menu when adding to it. Food wait was about 35 min when they estimated an hour. There's a parking lot behind the building but the entire area was crowded on a Sunday afternoon. 9/10
Meh. Cocktails are atrocious. Coffee’s ok. Serving system is… very Austin I guess. Probably not coming back after 3rd try haha.
Better Half is like a movie that gets better with each scene. Each visit just gets more and more enjoyable; every dish is delicious and every drink is tasty and the employees are just all-around good chill people. If there’s no parking in the front they have a whole lot out back. It’s always a good time at better half
Great place to get some food and a drink. Always a chill vibe, great cocktails, good food especially the burger. Lots of outdoor seating, makes it easy to enjoy during a busy happy hour.
Better Half is my favorite place in Austin! I have been going here for both food and coffee for years. My husband and I even hosted our wedding weekend welcome party for family and out of town guests here, and they were so easy and wonderful to work with. Great environment, super friendly staff, and the absolute best cup of coffee and veggie burger in the city, hands down. (Always order the queso too)
This place became my home away from home when I lived at the Pressler Apartments across the street, nothing but good food, good vibes and even better people. Amazing outdoor patio and brunch and a cute little date spot as well.
Yesterday a friend came with me to grab lunch and coffee here. We also were planning on working through our lunch so we brought our laptops. We ordered our food and drinks and sat in a booth. Within 3 minutes the staff came up to us and told us we needed to move because they don't allow laptops inside. My friend and I are both hispanic and they literally kicked us out and told a group of white people they could take our table. As soon as we stood up they told this group of white people the table was theirs. Blatant racism. I'd also like to add that it was RAINING outside so this was the only place to sit and eat comfortably without getting wet. They gave me my matcha which was the worst matcha I have ever tasted in my entire life but before they could give my friend anything from her order we cancelled our food orders because we were so disgusted with the attitude of the people working here. We were appalled that after ordering food and sitting down the staff here had the audacity to kick us out of our table. So rude. We were literally paying customers and again it was RAINING outside so I'm not sure what was going on through the minds of staff members. Would you like us to eat our food outside in the pouring rain??? While white people get to eat inside? Seriously?? Unreal service. So unwelcoming. This is the worst coffee shop you can go to in Austin. Don't bother coming here.
Nice outdoor seating with chill vibes and good food / drinks. Parking is limited and can get very busy so be patient and plan accordingly.
The Vermicelli salad was scrumptious! All you need is the half size and you'll be satisfied! Oh....try the Cauliflower tots......delicious!
Parked in the gravel parking they share with a brewery next door to get a coffee, didn’t realize it came with an obnoxious sticker on my car as well. The rosemary lavender latte was good though.
We discovered this place on a Sunday afternoon and fell in love with their ambiance on the outdoor patio!! The restaurant is right next to Hold Out Brewey and very close to the river. It’s early spring now so chilling on their outdoor space with some drinks is the most ideal way to spend your Sunday! Staff are super friendly and helpful with giving advice on their drinks menu. I love my cocktail and my friend ordered match latte which looks super cute as well. Will come back with other folks to try their food :)
Nice atmosphere, great vibe and unique architecture. However, wait time for food was 75 minutes, quite unexpected from an establishment that appears to mainly focus on cocktails and coffee. Regardless, I will still return for another round.
