Hickory Street A slice of zucchini bread Simple quaint Cafe Thus ends my wonderful poem about a Victorian house cafe with modern selections
Great Food. Great Service. Great Staff.
This place isn’t worth it: one, they are out of everything. Tried the BLT, no bacon, Tried the taco salad, they don’t make that anymore. I ordered from the takeout window, the wait was a good 30 mins with no food. I requested to wait inside and maybe eat inside. They declined. They said if you paid outside, you cannot eat inside their establishment. Made me wonder if prices are cheaper at the window. But they are not. They are very disorganised, you have to pull someone and ask for directions. If this is what Abilene considers top of the line, they can keep it. My rating is purely on Service. Then the sandwich came after 45 minutes. Total waste of my time. The only thing that can make sense of this bad service is if the business is under new ownership.
Great place to meet and eat!
Friendly staff, great food, and the zucchini bread is amazing
A little disappointed. Have always loved the chicken salad. They have changed it a little and while it's still good it isn't a good. Also missed the lettuce leaf, orange and cucumber twist and the cashews. Zucchini bread was excellent as always and the staff friendly like usual.
Great place for a wonderful lunch. We each had a different sandwich & ended with the peanut butter pie. We all loved what we ordered. The staff are very friendly & knowledgeable. Will have tonplan a stop here next time we pass thru during the week. Beautiful old home, makes you feel like you walked back into grandma's house.
I went to a lot of trouble to be able to come to hickory street today for the first time during their very short hours in probably a year. My experience began with multiple phone calls that went unanswered over half an hour before I stopped trying. I needed to call in a to go. When I arrived at the restaurant there was a sign on the pick up window stating they weren't doing to gos that day. Had they answered the phone or added a recording I wouldve known. The hostess reiterated this when I told her I couldn't stay for the long wait because I had my dog in the car and it was hot. I take my support dog most places with me. My husband, who was working miles away, really wanted chicken salad from their restaurant however so I made the long trip to my house and back for a table. Once I was sat I ask if I could take some extra chicken salad with me. My waitress said the kitchen would not do even this because "they were short". I didnt understand that until I heard the very loud, snarky protests from the nearby kitchen in response to a different waitress asking for a to go salad for a table. "Ive already done x number of to go items so whats another!" "Whats it matter anymore". I felt bad for that waitress. Then later in response to a customer complaint "See thats why I try to ignore people!". Im sorry but I dont understand the logic behind such a rigid no to go policy coupled with no phone answering or a recording to inform the customer. It is flat inconsiderate towards patrons. How does it change the time invested in an order anyway? It probably doesn't take as much time to wait a table as it does to bag an order. Why can't an exception be made when someone has an animal in the car and had no means of knowing about your policy in advance? The food was ok and to me the place is way over hyped.. I wont be returning or recommending.
This is such a great lunch spot! Went with a friend, and we both ordered the same thing. The Salad Sampler with Maple Vinaigrette. It came with their very popular chicken salad, a pasta salad with chicken, and a garden salad. It also came with 2 pieces of zucchini bread. I liked the pasta salad with chicken. It was tangy, and the chicken had good texture but not really any flavor. The chicken salad was a flavor bomb in your mouth! Wow! Awesome flavor. BUT I got WAY too many fatty, rubbery, grisly pieces to be able to thoroughly enjoy it, which was a bummer. But I did eat the pieces that I could tell would have a good texture. I ordered their vegetable of the day quiche, to go, which was a broccoli mushroom. It was delicious! I also ordered a bowl of broccoli parmesan soup to go and did not like the texture of this soup at all, but the flavor was very good! It was goopy. Reminded me of paper mache glue. The raspberry iced tea was very good. It's not too sweet, very refreshing. I will go back because it's a nice spot for lunch. But I will definitely try other things or maybe stick with the quiche!
March 2023 Welp, we called to see what the wait was and we thought we were in luck because there were open tables, but it took 15 minutes to get our order. We waited 50 min (no word on progress or check in from waitress) before we had to just leave. Upon exit we were told the food hadn't even been started yet. Their peach tea and zucchini are good so 2 stars. July 2022 BLT - Expected the bacon to be thick... couldn't taste the peach preserve but it was there. The potato soup was good.
We’ve been waiting for 1 hour my first and last time here
Excellent food and service
Loved the chicken salad croissant. Sad they are not open on weekends, when most people do lunch with family.
The food is always yummy! Service is always great as well. Such a cute place to enjoy lunch.
Hickory Street is always a wonderful experience! I especially love their zucchini bread and chicken salad! The service is always great too!
Great place to stop for a nice lunch. On a road trip and stopped. Lovely place you can sit outside. Would recommend making reservations. Very popular ❤️
The vibe is unique
My order consisted of hot chocolate, potato soup and zucchini bread for starters. The hot chocolate was Swiss mix in the box and not homemade. The zucchini “bread” was cake just like carrot cake almost. The potato soup was tasteless and had only one potato chunk in it. The sandwich was sub par at best just literally everything was store bought and not worth the time.
Charming old house, oilcloth covered tables, best home-made chicken salad and yummy Broccoli Parmesan soup, with pasta salad, pickles, and potato sticks. Peach tea and zucchini bread, so good!
Stopped at the Hickory Street Cafe for lunch on our way to Palo Duro Canyon from Cypress, TX. Ordered the soup and sandwiche, all of which were delicious and nice sized portions. They also offer very tasty gluten free items which was a plus for one in our party. The atmosphere is very cute, the service was prompt and friendly even though they were fairly busy. The dessert items were also delicious, homemade, and very fresh...again offering a gluten free option. The waitress even offered us more coffee for the road! Would definitely recommend and stop here again when passing through!👍
