My husband and I showed up an hour before closing. A young lady came up to us to take our order another lady butted in and said half of our stuff we’re out of we already started cleaning up to close up. We’ll see if we can get you some thing on the menu to eat. We end up with the open faced roast beef it was cold mashed potatoes were a big ball of cold potatoes. I got the corn it was room temperature. My husband got the pinto beans they were room temperature. My husband asked for a piece of pie. The lady started putting up the knife and spatula to serve it,then turned around and asked oh I forgot you wanted a piece of pie don’t you? I said no don’t worry about it I know you’re trying to clean up don’t dirty your stuff we paid $26 for a cold meal we were very disappointed. I had heard great things about this place disappointing that my husband that hardly ever goes out to eat got this kind of service. I will say we will not be back. I have no pictures because we were so disappointed in the place. As I was sitting there, another customer came up, trying to come in to eat with his family. She met him at the door would not let them in. It was about 20 minutes till closing time, so I kind of understand. Her only concern was closing up and getting home. She achieved her goal. She never has to worry about me coming back and holding her up to go home.

Went for the first time in years. My meal was good. Of course it was only a sandwich. My son had chicken and dumplings, green beans, potatoes. He said chicken and dumplings were not good. There was MAYBE 8 green beans in the bowl. That was pitiful. My 18 year old grandson got a burger and fries. His burger was great he said...they gave him 7 French fries. The serving sizes are definitely off. He could have eaten a plate of them 7 was an appetizer!!! We have NO intention of going back. I was so hoping for a good restaurant in this town. I was extremely disappointed.

I have eaten here five times in the last 6 weeks two of those five times were absolutely fantastic both of those times unfortunately were at breakfast. Fantastic breakfast wouldn't recommend any other place! Dinner however, that is a whole other subject the first time we went in they had no steaks except for of course the most expensive one on the menu. Youu are a hole in the wall diner I can't truly believe someone would pay $30 for a steak at your location. The next visit everyone just got burgers or sandwiches because you guessed it they had no steaks again. Also I was told that they have white beans and cornbread or pinto beans and cornbread everyday so far that has not been the case either. The burgers and sandwiches were great the fries as excited as I was when they were put in front of me they were squishy and very bland. The third time I spent $12 with tax on a salad, their chef salad which they advertise to have ham bacon grilled chicken lettuce and tomato. Well you get a very very small amount of chicken and Ham but almost an entire onion on the salad so with that being said I probably will not go back for dinner but will definitely go for breakfast. The three stars is generous because of how good their breakfast is!

Only 4 stars on the food because I've only tried one item on the menu. But the chocolate pie is better then the grocery stores so worth a try in my opinion. I'd love to go and try another one of their original menu items. Old style Cafe....reminds me of an old soda jerk place. The mix of locals ,that have been going forever, plus us newbies was adorable. The space though is amazing, you can feel the history. I saw a picture on the wall that suggests it may be a much older place. Loooovee a genuine retro greesy spoon with good recipes and friendly people. A cute place to have a poetry or bingo night!

The new owner has brought back a lot of the original menu food from the old Popes. The food is always fresh hot and so good. The cheeseburgers and fries are amazing as well. Homemade desserts and plate lunches. We love eating supper here at least onice during the week and Breakfast on Saturday mornings. Everyone needs to go try them. The owners are young folks really working hard.

Our first time here in years.. We came late on a Monday evening. Our waitress was so pleasant. We had the Open-faced Roast Beef with our bread on the side, fresh Mashed Potatoes with brown gravy, White beans and a bunch of onions. Every item had a generous portion. And...they had 5 or more pies. We had the Coconut Merangue pie. Every bite was delicious. We'll be back...😋 BTW...I forgot to get pics of our meals because we gobbled our dinners so quick.
