I went to get a coffee here on Sunday 5/21 at about 9:30am. I’ve been here plenty of times with a great experience, but what I saw yesterday was unacceptable. A couple in front of me was short a couple dollars for their order, they asked to switch the drinks to a smaller size so they would have enough $$$. The young lady working the register treated them like garbage because of this. She immediately got rude with them and then when handing the change back literally threw it in the customers hands and the change went all over. The young lady at the register did not say anything to the customer after throwing their money and then turned to her co-workers and asked them to switch to the register. I’ve never seen a customer put down and treated like that for anything. Be kind

The cutest little coffee shop and bookstore! I love how all of the specials are named after a literary character. The coffee and tea are always amazing and the fresh baked goods are a welcomed bonus.

My first time there felt rush to order. The lady gave me no suggestions and when my coffee was made literally 30 seconds later she sets it on the counter directly in front of me and yelled HOUSE COFFEE! as if she didn't just take my order. Call me sensitive but this is no way to attract new regular customers. There are too many places that sale coffee

The Coffee Shelf is a great place to hang out and cozy up with a good book and a cup of hot coffee. When we entered the shop we first noted the shelf of books written by all local authors- I love all things local and its great to see local businesses and people supporting eachother. They also had used books, and a fun "take a book, leave a book" shelf. Brilliant idea. All the specialty drinks were named after books and characters which just adds to the charm here ~ My husband is head over heels for the Charlie Brown (a peanut butter latte), I loved loved their matcha latte with lavender, and the Chai tea latte was perfect. This is a place we will definitely frequent every time we're in town.

Had a great experience, and was happy they were open so early after I got off work! I am excited to try some of their other iced lattes in the future!

Good cafe Americano and Latte. Very nice local coffee shop in Chapin. I also black coffee nothing added and it was smooth, not bitter at all and piping hot like I want my coffee. Thank you very much!

This is my favorite coffee place ever. I wish they would expand to more locations. The coffee is the best coffee I've ever had and even when I try new drinks and flavors I'm never disappointed. Their bakery items are also delicious. I've introduced this place to many friends and family members and it is now their favorite place, too.

Update 12/16/22: It has been a while since my last visit… The young person with a mask definitely gave the vibe of being inconvenienced by having to take our orders. This is after we watched an older man give his order and attempt to be cheery after having informed us he had just left his wife’s grave after placing a wreath there. The young lady, Sam, who he attempted to share a joke with seemed annoyed at having to interact with a customer. It’s the Christmas season and it definitely was not jolly at the Coffee Shelf today. Old review: This is the best coffee shop in the Chapin area. They have great drinks and food choices as well as awesome book offerings. I highly recommend stopping in for your coffee needs.

Love this place! I favor the "Hermione" and "soul surfer" and love that this place has a reading nook vibe. I visit frequently just to sit and read and find it very relaxing. I'm thankful we have a reading friendly coffee shop like this in Chapin. I only wish there was a bit more lounge seating suitable for reading but luckily I've rarely been without a couch spot for reading yet. They also have excellent seasonals (the apple pie chai is simply incredible and the London fog is great for a change of pace). They also do freshly ground pour overs (although I try to order those when it's more chill as it's time consuming to make and puts the barista in a stressful spot).

This place is one of the last few of a dying breed of small business coffee shops that used to be all over the Columbia area and were wiped out by large corp franchises like Starbucks and Dunkin
