A friend of mine introduced me to this place and I've gotta say, it's amazing. You can socialize, study, and a few things more here. Plus, they've got some good food and drinks here. An amazing hidden gem among downtown areas.

I have been in SC for more than 3 years. I always go to Appa Java whenever I need a pleasant place. Free coffee, play board/card games games, meet with people, and study. Love being here. I have plenty of good memories here.

I saw them kick out a guy because he was homeless, which I thought was disgusting.

Okay!!! This coffee shop serves ONLY students of Penn State. I entered to order coffee and when I asked for the cashier a nice man said this coffee shop serves only PSU students. Ahhh! It makes sense, I replied. Independently of my embarrassment, let me tell you, the place looked clean, cozy, and it was warm. Everyone was here quietly studying. It is an environment for kids who want to study. Period.
A great place for students to hang out, study, and enjoy free coffee. There's free wifi, outlets, and plenty of seating. There are often snacks from grocery stores that would otherwise get thrown away. I spend many hours here and it is always a place where I feel welcome.
Free coffee for students! Much nicer inside than one would think for a free coffee place.
