Civilization Coffee, is quintessentially "Cleveland." Centrally located in Tremont, it provides a robust and vintage environment, akin its roots. With coffee shops sprouting left and right, Civilization sets itself apart by its food, coffee, and atmosphere. I like to call this place a "Cleveland Original" ~ you'll be hard pressed to find anything else like it in the city.

We stayed nearby during our recent stay in Cleveland. It was in a convenient walking distance location. Our first visit, the waitress wasn't overly friendly. We literally had stepped foot inside for a second when she asked what we wanted, but not in a kind, friendly manner. Our other waitress was great though. The pastries were just ok, as was the coffee. Seems like Americans have cream or whole milk only (outside of almond milk etc), no 1%, 2% options. We drink our coffee with milk so we asked for a splash. Our cups ended up being a bit more than 1/3 milk, couldn't even taste the coffee. (Note, we found the same with other shops during our US visits. Also, US do not know how to make a good cup of "sweet" tea).

Nice spot; caught up with a friend here today over coffee. A little bit dark; need to bring in more sunlight ☀️

Wow, a must-visit spot. Historical and cozy vibe, plenty of food and bakery options- note their hot deli menu. Obviously coffee options. Patio out front in a relaxing quiet neighborhood. If you purchase a bakery item they can warm it up for you.

Off all the coffee shops in Tremont, they are one.

I love trying new coffee shops, but Civilization makes me want to settle down and become a regular. It doesn't get better than a large coffee of the day (they're all good) and a stuffed croissant bigger than your head (I also did the research for you on this one and can confirm that all the flavor options are amazing). The atmosphere is warm and cozy, as are the baristas. Please go support this business!!!

I've been coming here for several years. I normally get the pre-made mocha iced coffee and sometimes a Danish. I forgot lunch and bought a turkey sandwich on a croissant, and not only was it the best lunchmeat sandwich I ever had. It is huge! I saved the other half for dinner

An idyllic coffee shop: dark hard woods, close-knit seating, all the fixings of uncontrived authenticity. Good coffee drinks and excellent selection of foods and pastries. Location is central to some of the best things about Tremont area. Clearly a spot for good conversations and community.

Everybody here is always so super friendly. The people that work here are always very warm and inviting. I literally feel like I'm at a friend's house getting a fresh cup of coffee. The coffee is always fresh and it never tastes burned. I love that they have an assortment of fresh snack and bakery items plus sandwiches at lunch time. The prices are affordable and very fair. It means so much to the local community to have places we can afford to come to and not feel taken advantage of for a cup of coffee and fresh snack. I truly enjoy my visits. Thank you so much!

Saw a bunch of social topics on the building and didn’t even stop. Wanted coffee not agendas.

The pumpkin spice latte and lemon square were phenomenal. I do wish the breakfast sandwich was a bit heartier and had different bread options - it was only available on wheat bread, I would have preferred a bagel or croissant. I'd go back for coffee and pastries though.

Emma was a friendly ray of sunshine on a dreary Cleveland afternoon. My Mexican hot chocolate was delicious and Sir's deli turkey bagel sandwich was amazing!
