If you've ever taken a drive across country, and stopped in 1 of those quaint towns and discovered the best local eatery, well that's Penns Grill to a tee!!! Helen does a great job incorporating new products and new ideas to keep the menu fresh. The place is clean, well organized and that speaks volumes to the ownership! So the next time you're in Wilmington NC area, take the time to stop and eat, you'll never forget it!! And save room for dessert!!!

Penn's Grill was a pleasant lunchtime surprise in the small town of Whiteville. The relatively small diner had a plentiful variety of dishes, fresh veggies, meats, and seafood. My leafy salad with fruit and shrimp were fresh and delicious, plus, the coffee and the service were excellent. I'll start looking for reasons to pass through Whiteville during breakfast and lunch times.

This place has excellent potential! The food and menu selection was excellent! Great portions! Great taste! (And with a few tweaks they could be spot on.) We were halfway greeted, with a "sit anywhere” Our server was just there. We had what we needed, maybe not quite as timely, but we were satisfied. We would have taken sweets home, but when we were looking at them, no one offered. And it was almost as if we were in the way. (Granted it is a small place) But there was only one other table there) It was almost like BYE.... Work on that customer service! And those smiles, it can make a big difference in remembering somewhere you want to go again, it can make a good experience a great one!
We ate there on the way home from the beach. I had an omelet with Fresh veggies. So good. My husband had some of the best hash browns ever. Everything is homemade . Fresh homemade biscuits and dessert. Little gem 💎

Half of the food we ordered and paid for was missing and when I brought it to their attention, the owner argued with me. My burger ended up dry and tasteless anyway. The grilled cheese was inedible. The fries were soggy and saltless. Very, very disappointing. I did appreciate the extra cookies they gave us and the staff seemed nice.
I used to be in the food service business so I am very forgiving- short staff, no staff, new staff.. always human error..But my order(Chile hash bowl- requested no chili no sour cream) was wrong to begin with, the woman just handed me hash browns w onions. I repeated what i had asked for. The woman asked me what my order was and attempted to correct it/ it was thrown together, my one slice of cheese was thrown in pieces/not melted. Then I was charged $9.89 for added scrambled and cheddar..I was still charged for the chili and sour cream. I don't mind paying for good food but the price is high and very poor customer service- they lost me as a customer. I always tip and I am super polite. I don't feel like they valued my business so I will not recommend this place, nor pay my hard earned money for poor service.

The freshest, most delicious lunch!! We stopped here on our way to the beach (after almost stopping at a fast food place and noticing reviews mentioning healthy food). I had the Farmacy bowl and my husband had the grilled chicken club with some chili fries and berry cobbler to share and it was some of the best food I’ve had in a long time. It was flavorful, the vegetables were crisp and fresh, and it was healthy but also so so so delicious. The staff was friendly and courteous and the service was wicked fast so we were back on the road in no time with curbside delivery. We’re making it a point to stop here again on our way back!
Read some reviews on here about the amazing gluten free chicken and waffles. Went to the restaurant, ordered this amazing combination of food and was totally wowed! All the food my son and I tried was awesome, but the incredible thing about this place, the gluten free options! So. Many. Options. And the staff is so knowledgeable and absolutely wonderful! Definitely check this place out if you haven’t or if you are passing through and have the opportunity! Cannot wait to go back!

Although I have been told some of their entrees are delicious, and that may be true, however I was I a hurry and decided to grab a hotdog because Ward's had folks lined up down the sidewalk. I said what the heck grab a couple from Penn's. I really did not think someone could screw up a hotdog. Boy I was wrong their chili taste like kerosene. Like I said they probably have some good entrees but they should get out of the hotdog business.
Taste was good of the omelet but too greasy.
Food is overpriced for the area. 2 hotdogs and a tea cost $10. Not even 300ft away same kind of restaurant for half the price
This place was amazing and has great lattes. I was impressed and happy to know such quality is in Columbus County.
