Our first visit while vacationing. Best banana bread I've ever eaten, great coffee! Quaint shop with books, art, jewelry and other gifts to choose from. Employees were so friendly. Will definitely go back when in the area.

The food is hit or miss, and Sam is a bit of a gossip. It's not an uncommon occurrence to hear her talk badly or share intimate details about a customer or apparent friend she had just been smiling and chatting with before they left the shop. Calling her two-faced is rounding down.

Great little shop. Very very interesting shop, actually. I feel like describing it would ruin the magic of just visiting and experiencing the store for yourself. The only thing I will say is if you see a box of cheddar pigs just buy them. Im on vacation and wont get the chance to pick up a box as they where sold out when I went back for them so I dont want you to make the same mistake.

Appropriately named, I didn't find any sugar-free.

So if you're obsessed with bakeries and baked goods in general like I am, you'll get really excited when this place pops up on your Google search. You'll also get excited when you arrive and see the sign saying "Sugar Island Bakery and Supplies"....Don't be. As I learned from the person running the business today, they no longer are an actual bakery and stopped calling themselves such "years ago". Which was really news to me because not only is the actual word "bakery" on their signage out front. Also, they come up with menus for baked goods and advertise them for every holiday...? Anyway, great baked goods when you can get them, but don't expect consistency. I acknowledge that I am from a more structured area and my biggest problem since moving down here is that I expect too much from the small businesses and owners. I'm working on it.

They have the most fantastic scones and jam bars I’ve ever eaten. So tasty! Cookies and other baked goods are great too. I haven’t tried the coffees but I’m sure they are as good as their other items.

This is probably my favorite place in Surf City. The local treats are amazing (particularly the key lime pie) and their butter beer drink is fantastic. My kids loved the books upstairs. It was great to shop at some place local, as opposed to some of the more tourist-trappy places on the island. The atmosphere here is top-tier and I want to spend so much time here every time in out at the beach.

A bake shop, coffee shop, gift shop, book shop and friendly atmosphere. Outside seating and limited parking spots.

You must try the Ginger Chews; nothing like them. I stopped in one morning and stopped the day before we returned to PA for more! We live in Lancaster County and baked goods are everywhere but I’ve never had cookies this wonderful!

Really cute bakery. Surprised by the books available and other knick knacks. Lended to a very relaxed vibe. Chocolate cake was very good, Snickerdoodle Cookies were spectacular, Chocolate Shortbread cookies were amazing, and my parents love the Scones they've bought. (Try the chewy ginger cookies... thank me later) The upstairs area is packed with books on top books in cases organized by genre. There's even a kids area with books, toys, and what not. Though we didn't find much in the way of seating anywhere... though one book after another was a fairly good distraction. Overall, super cool coffee shop and hidden gem of a bakery. We'll definitely be going back. (Photo: surprised to find one of my favorite books there in hard back, which isn't common. Might need to go back and grab it, as well as some chewy ginger cookies.)

Little coffee and book shop with neat things to look through. Make sure you go upstairs, too! Staff was friendly and thankful that we stopped by.

I could stay there all day and get lost in all their whimsical whatchamacallits and thingy-ma-bobs, classic / old books and other amazing oddities. It’s my fave place in all of Topsail island.

One of my all time favorite places to visit. Last time we were in, my son said he wanted to live there. Not only do they have delicious drinks and treats, they have the most amazing book and gift selection. The people are so sweet and wonderful to talk to, you feel like you're visiting family when you go in.

Sugar Island & Sugar Market are absolutely the best place to shop in Surf City for unique products. The displays are well thought out and the old books are organized in little nooks & grannies. My sister & I loved the coffee, the bakery, the vintage clothes, the fairy village, the one of a kind ceramics and much more. The customer service is a joy!

The BEST PLACE in Topsail Island Area for baked goods, coffee, tea, books, and/or organic fruits and vegetables!!! Sugar Island is a one-stop bakery and coffee shop [some of the finest local roasted beans in the region] I have encountered since my relocation from NJ 14 years ago!!! Too bad they do not make bagels [NY Corner Deli next door brings them in from NYC!!!]... Bottom line: whether you want a scone, muffin, key lime pie, cake, custom roasted coffee, vegetable orvherb plant, books, Smithey Cast Iron [from SC], or a pleasant conversation.... this is definitely a stop you want to make!!! BTW... they seasonally carry local made ice cream and sorbets!!!
