Take away afternoon tea. It was delightful! Many interesting combinations - the feta chocolate scone was a favorite. Would recommend!
Very secretive about their prices I got hit with a 90$ bill for valentines day when I was expecting a 50$ bill, and they were very unapologetic, never did anything to fix the issue and I do not plan on going back. And their bed and breakfast rooms don't even have mini fridges and for their prices, they should at least have a mini fridge. Bathrooms aren't even in the rooms you have to skip down the hall to get to one 🙄
Such a lovely place for lunch with lots of room to spread out guests. Food is excellent and staff is like family.
The elegant atmosphere is exceeded by the delectable menu and exceptional staff. A real treat. Take someone you love.
In a class of it's own. Delicious food and service with a hometown feel. Had me reminiscing about family members who have since passed. Wiped away a tear and sat up straight and for just a moment it was nice to be dignified once more.
We had a perfect breakfast to finish off our weekend!!! Thank you ! Mimosas were delicious!
We've been big fans of The Flour Box since we moved to Winston-Salem, from New York, five years ago. With COVID-19 making a huge impact on how we eat out, a review seemed overdo. It always seems like there's an abundance of coffee shops, but seldom do you run into fantastic tea shops. Finding the Flour Box in a quaint little corner of Old Salem felt like my own little heaven on earth. The atmosphere was cozy, tucked away, and quiet. The menu offered quality assortments of food, intentional about sourcing local ingredients. Best of all, it went well with tea! Black tea, green tea, caffeinated, decaffeinated they broke out it out! The varieties of tea span from several countries across the world and it always felt like I could come back and try something new. They've since moved to the Henry F. Shaffner House downtown, which feels like an appropriately fancy upgrade to compliment the experience of tea time. As far as COVID-19 goes, dining inside is a personal choice. I've struggled with it, as someone who loves to eat out, but also wants to comply with safety guidelines. This is the only place in town I still frequent considering. With a one year old in tow now, I have always felt the staff was incredibly kind, giving her the same level of hospitality we've always been shown. They have also been considerate of safety and kept us separated from other groups by putting us in entirely separate rooms. Always masked and trying to keep their distance wherever they could, they're a great group of folks who have adapted well to a rough year. Highly recommend it!
Responding to Terri Matthews’ review below. We were customers at The Flour Box when this group was there. They were loud, rude, and obnoxious. They we so bad we asked to move our table, which the staff pleasantly accommodated our request. And on top of that they did not wear masks! In fact, my husband confronted Terri Matthews by the bathroom and asked where her mask was. She lied and said it was at the table and it wasn’t. The menu clearly states that a 20% gratuity will be added for parties of 6 or more. If they were stupid enough to add a tip on top of that, that is their fault. Rest assured the staff would not have asked for a tip, just like any restaurant would not ask for an additional tip. Finally, we found the food and service to be outstanding! After we were moved to a quieter room we throughly enjoyed our Afternoon Tea experience. We cannot recommend this lovely cafe enough!
The Flour Box Tea Room provides everything one would want in a tea experience. Their staff is very knowledgeable about the different kinds of tea, the food is AMAZING, and the atmosphere is beautiful. It is also family owned!!
Such a lovely place! The people who work here are so nice and professional. The food, tea and French pressed coffee is amazing. My mother and I have been many times and will continue to come. You can dine for a casual lunch or splurge and do the English Tea Service. Each you will have an amazing time and enjoy delicious food and drinks.
We had a wonderful time! The tea and food were amazing.
This is absolutely phenominal place to stop by for brunch or lunch. There is outdoor, porch, and indoor seating. There is an excellent selection of different teas ranging from black, herbal, asian, and green teas. The servers are extremely friendly and the atmosphere is wonderful. Everything down to the plates and cups are beautiful. The food itself is also fantastic. I had the monte cristo as part of their French Breakfast and it was exceptional.
I Love this place it's the perfect place just to wind down mabey read a book if you would like, me and my mom got the berry tea and it was delicious we also got the full tea set and all of the little treats a biscuits were amazing and the waitress was really nice too
I made a reservation a month ago for today for 2 Full Tea Service and it was really a wonderful experience. ❤. From the minute I arrived it was just an amazing feeling. Parking was easy. They have their own parking space next to the house. The vibe and the environment was so warmth, welcoming and inviting. We chose next to the window. And we pretty much there for 2 almost 3 hours. It is just so pleasant. We also get the chance to tour the whole house which is a 9 bedrooms bed and breakfast. They also have a function room that can accomodate approx. 60 people. What a beautiful historic mansion. Lots and lots of charm.Tea service was excellent, we definitely be back with some friends and enjoy some more great tea...we hope you guys be around for many many more years to come and look forward for more coming events at The Schaffner House.
The food is quality, and so is the service but a bit overpriced for the small, petite amounts given. Scones are petite, not a full one, salads are half a cup sized, etc.. I have been to many tea houses all around the world and here, and it just needs a bit consideration of the value of what your giving...
Such a surprise! Me and my friend stopped by on a whim and was thoroughly impressed by the service and the quality of food. Will be back with more friends and to try the fish and chips!!!
I can't wait to come back! Everything was perfect. Received some of the best - THE best - service I've ever received from Stephanie who was knowledgeable, thorough, and attentive. The tea was served to us properly brewed and hot. We had such a good time and never felt rushed even though we just purchased a pot of tea to share and no food. We left over 20 minutes past their closing time and were totally unaware! In addition to the beauty of the grounds and the decor, everything was impeccably clean: everyone was wearing a mask properly and tables were distanced and sanitized after use. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a unique and safe experience in Winston-Salem.
They tried to seat us on the built on sun porch instead of inside the house, it was no where near as nice as sitting in the house. They also sat as directly across from a man and his child not even 6 feet from us in this deadly quiet sun room, where me and my friend could not even whisper to each other without being heard. I asked to move and they let us go inside where we could have an adult conversation. Not sure why they insist on seating people in the sunroom when you clearly reserved a spot inside the beautiful house. The man we had been seated next to said they refused to move him prior to me asking. The tea and food were just ok.
Awesome place! Good food and atmosphere! Love it!
Atmosphere very charming. The food was delicious, and the waitress was wonderful! Looking forward to going back!
