Had a most delightful first experience at Penny Cup. The owner-barista was exceptionally friendly and highly professional. She advised me on the differences between their three drip/roast offerings. The coffee was very good. The space is nice with work tables and plenty of one-off seating. Was surprised at the reasonable cost as well :) Will definitely be back.
The coffee wasn't even good and the boy behind the counter was super rude for no reason. Another woman, clearly a local, came in and he had a totally different demeanor with her. It feels like everyone in Asheville treats you like trash if you’re not a burnt hippie. It seems like it’s everywhere you visit in Asheville. We were visiting from out of state and doubt we’ll come back. Edit: Every customer should be treated with the same respect whether they’re a regular or not. If the customer service we received this morning met the owner’s standards, that’s a shame.
Beautifully made and yummy latte, fun people inside, super kind barista…a little corner of why I love this city.
Great coffee and very nice staff! The iced raspberry snow latte (raspberry and white chocolate) was amazing!
Coffee beans are amazing!!!
Nice neighborhood coffee shop. Beautiful floors! That sounds like an odd compliment for a coffee shop, but you have to see them. In general, the baristas are very friendly, with one exception, and I’ve not seen that barista in there for some time. They usually have a nice Yerba mate for me, and they will often have it iced in the summer! I normally don’t try the baked goods, because I am recently gluten insensitive, but they had a gluten-free banana bread that just knocked my socks off the other day! See photo. It was moist and rich and huge, just delicious! A good neighborhood gathering spot. Overall, very chill.
Must stop! Fantastic coffee, barista, esthetic. Such great coffeeshop vibes.
Rather disappointing oat cappuccino :/ barista seemed very disinterested as well. I hate leaving reviews like this because I also work in this industry. I just feel the need to be honest with the owners and workers. Really hope to see some improvements 🙏 best of luck
On their north café location: The good: Fast wifi, spacious seating and a light food menu. The medium roast was tasty. The meh: Barista wasn’t personable or friendly and the bathroom could use a good scrub and refresh. Extra charge for using contactless/card payment.
I'm not too sure if we just came in on a bad day but the barista was incredibly rude and couldn't tell us if the bagels were vegan or not so we had to call ourselves to find out (your staff should be aware of all ingredients in case of severe allergies). When we finally ordered, the bagel had a long hair in the tapenade. When my husband went to bring his bagel with a hair in it to the counter, the employee just said "that's interesting" and didn't even offer to make another one until we asked him to and then when it was ready he made a passive aggressive remark saying "bagel number two is ready" as if we were being fussy by not eating the first hairy bagel. As a local, I will definitely not be coming back to this location.
Outstanding cafe latte and excellent service!
Beautiful and relaxing place to get some writing done! Variety of seating options like bench seating, cozy corners, and high tops. The coffee was lovely as well. Great vibes, can't wait to come back.
Well rounded and manageable menu, comfortable and large seating areas, fast and free WiFi. Great service!
Do yourself a favor and go! They are kind, remember you, and fun to chat with...oh, the coffee is good too! :) highly recommend a dirty Chai with oatmilk!
Freaking amazing! Loveeee the bagels & the iced chai!
Good coffee shop.
I only stopped in for a coffee but it's a nice spot with nice staff and I'll certainly be back.
Really tasty drip coffee and they have a stellar marzocco machine for espresso love!
Very friendly and accommodating to requests. Best coffee shop experience I’ve had in quite a while.
Very nice barista named Alex. Lovely flavors, smells, and atmosphere
