Great cozy place to sit and have a cup of coffee and food. I'll continue to visit here.
My favorite coffee place in St Louis. Great coffee and friendliest staff. They got delicious food and pastries too. Great place to work/read/study while enjoying a delicious cup of coffee.
Lovely decor, book selection, gaming area and staff but the coffee and the espresso were not quite there. Perfect place to sit and work or gather for hours though Service - 5, really enjoyed talking with the ladies Espresso- 4, full-bodied and dense but without much flavor Drip - 2, no flavor and slightly watery Pastry - 3, Samoa cookie was a bit too dense, soft and needed some thicker and crunchier coconut
Perfect place. They even babysat my phone overnight when I misplaced it there. 5 stars ain’t enough
Loved the vibe, the barista, the coffee, the sweets (OMG, that Samoa cookie!). Really lovely place, so many vegan treats, and remarkably clean. If I visit St. Louis again, it will be my first stop.
Went in for a bagel. Came out with a blueberry muffin that could make a grown man cry. Staff is awesome and muffins are amazing thanks!
I love Protagonist so much! The books, the quirky vibe, the themed drinks, the bonus unexpected things like burritos and ice cream and fun little cards and gifts, and the staff is all great.
A delightful quiet atmosphere with the scent of books, fresh brewed coffee and delicious sweets. Staff is attentive and kind with an easy approach. Lemon bunt cake and a nice hot chocolate to sooth a tiring drive, cozy and pleasant. The art on my hot chocolate was a cute surprise
First time here! Smells like heaven when you walk in, service was wonderful and atmosphere is just perfect! Definitely will be back...try the spinach & feta pastry. Yum!
I tried three of their pastries: -Cinnamon Roll: This was my favorite of the three. I thought it was neat how they changed the presentation of the cinnamon roll to appear more like a cupcake. I thought this was going to create an issue with not getting enough frosting with each bite at the base of the cinnamon roll, but it almost tasted like there was tiny bits of frosting between each layer of the roll. It was also super moist, so I have to give this cinnamon roll 5/5 stars. This thing was cash money. -Orange Scone: While this was my second favorite pastry, it was still very good and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a pastry that likes oranges. The frosting on top was great! I do think the scone itself could've been more moist, but overall it was a great experience eating this pastry. 4.5/5 stars. -Samoa: Nothing to write home about, although I do wonder if I received a cookie from a bad batch as this cookie was much wider and much flatter than the cookies that were being advertised in the display case. I slightly regret getting this cookie as it probably wasn't worth the calories that I consumed eating it even though I normally love samoas. 2/5 stars :(
I ordered a birthday cake for my boyfriends birthday, and it was delicious!! Truly one of the best cakes I have ever had. It was amazing. I will definitely be back to order another cake for a special event! Thank you! (Air Bubble was my fault. I left it in the backseat for 10 minutes when it was 95° outside. I picked it up in perfect condition!)
Cute coffee shop. A TON of seating and tables. Probably 14 tables, three couches and some lounge chairs. Tasty baked goods, priced $4-6. Drip coffee was average. Plenty of street parking. Free wifi. Friendly staff. Not too busy on a weekday morning.
This is a great little cafe in the heart of Soulard. It has become our regular breakfast place when we visit. On the weekends, they add to their already broad selection with made-to-order breakfast burritos that are as delicious as they are big. Plan for leftovers or to split with someone! ***UPDATE*** 2023 visit was even better than our original! Highly recommend this great little café in Soulard. Especially if you like breakfast burritos!
Great coffee, great atmosphere. There's something special about working in a quiet spot surrounded by books and drinking a great latte. I also splurged and bought a pair of funky earrings haha. I'd definitely recommend.
The coffee and atmosphere is awesome. The Saturday Burrito bar is 5 Star!
Finally got a chance to check this place out. It’s my kind of cafe, with the variety of seating options, very lived in and cozy without feeling dirty. Not pretentious, variety of people. I stopped in on a Sunday morning to catch up on some work for a few hours. I just caught the last “table” which was more like a desk against the wall. I pulled the desk out so I was able to sit facing the room - I have a thing about having my back to the room! It was a perfect, cozy spot to work. I get a little anxious trying new spots until I get the hang of how things work. A few points: - this place is popular and busy. I arrived a little before 10am on a Sunday. It got busy very quickly - you can order using QR code at your table. They will not call your name though, just your order, so listen - the cafe au lait was delicious and reasonably priced - best croissant ever (Parmesan leek) - after a couple hours,I tried the oatmeal cream pie, it was good but so rich, saved half for the next day - burrito bar smelled good but I couldn’t easily figure out how to order one so just gave up. Yea, I could have gone up and asked, but I told you I get anxious so forgive me, I was just trying to stay cool - plenty of outlets, no issues with wifi - restroom was super cute, spacious and clean feeling - the owners obviously love Gilmore Girls. I didn’t feel the love for it but appreciate that it wasn’t shoved down my throat - after the burritos shut down, no food options except super sweets (croissants seemed to be gone by 11am) but I saw people being sandwiches from nearby shops in. I’d love to see more savory lunch-like items like traditional croissants or bagels but at least what they had seems to be made in-house - you may not find a seat. Yes, I was there for like 4 hours. If there was a time limit, I would have respected it. I also purchased a few items and did not take up a table larger than what I needed - what I loved to see was people sharing tables, everyone seemed very kind about
books, coffee, pastries, a cozy place to read. i cannot want much more in life.
What's not to like here? Good coffee, books, pastries, snarky gifts. A great place to spend 15 minutes or 3 hours.
I love the strawberry mocha. During my visit of taste of soulard.
Very nice little cafe. My latte was delicious and the spinach/feta pastry I got was very enjoyable as well. My only complaint was that it was a little crowded and I could only find a seat that was a little firm to sit in for a couple hours that made me readjust every so often to get comfortable again. However, the atmosphere was charming and fairly quiet with most people studying/reading and music with few or no words playing to drown out the noise of any people chatting.
