The dinning experiece seems cheap. I used to go their as a young adult and were served with cloth napkins, now its the rolled paper ones you see at every other place. The menu opions need some more north shore flare. Its not captuering the rustic vibe. 3 stars is fair.
Cozy Cafe for the north shore travelers. Located very close to Gooseberry Falls State Park. We stopped by a couple of times for breakfast, lunch, pie, and the gift shop. It's pretty easy to spot from the road, has ample parking, and has a country style atmosphere.
Very busy, but it was the weekend. The pies are so good!!
I had the Fish Tacos and my husband had Cajun Pasta. Both were delicious! Our server was very friendly and attentive.
*Be prepared for a novel of a review* 😂 My husband and I loved this place! ❤️ This was our favorite restaurant we ate at during our stay on the north shore, including restaurants we went to in Duluth. The restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere and it felt like a very romantic place to go to with my husband. There were groups with kids there so it is family friendly as well. *Unfortunately, I do need to include our wait time in this review. We arrived on a Friday night around 6pm with no reservation and we were seated right away, but our food wasn't served for another hour at least. Luckily we ordered an appetizer that came to the table quickly because we were so hungry after a full day of travel! I will say, I can tell that it was a very unusual occurrence for this to happen. Do not expect to normally wait that long. **Here's the part I hope you pay attention to the most -the wait was SO WORTH IT! The food was absolutely delicious! I ordered the shrimp scampi and my husband had the meatloaf. Wonderfully flavored, spiced, and cooked to perfection! 😍 The appetizer mentioned earlier was the onion rings. They were good, but nothing special until you dip them in the restaurant's home made ranch sauce! Do it, you won't regret it. I would take home a bottle of that deliciousness if it was an option (and if it was, I deeply regret not seizing the opportunity!). 😂 *The waitress was really nice and hospitable. She checked on us multiple times while we waited and checked with the kitchen to see what was going on. She even ended up giving us pie on the house as an apology for the wait time. We ended up taking our free pie to go and it was delicious! *Price: it is a little expensive, but we chose dishes off of the "Entres" list which is the expensive part of the menu. For us, again it was completely worth it. They have other menu options such as sandwiches, wraps, salads that were all cheaper options. Some groups we saw come in to just sit and have coffee and pie, which sounds
This cafe has been going for around 40 years, it has always had great comfort food, pies, and chocolates. Attached gift shop loaded with gifts from " up north" .
We stopped here for lunch and for some pie. The food and the pie were wonderful! Their carrot cake was excellent as well. (Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of our food and pie). They also sell different flavors of truffles. They were also quite good! I’d recommend it as a stop if you are in the area!
It was good. They had a problem with our order of the pies I ordered. They didn’t make them before so we did have to wait for them. And we only got one of them we ordered right. The other one they didn’t have the fruit to make it. And they sat us in full sun and I had to squint to see anything. So kind of annoying.
Terrible service, aggressive unhelpful serving staff who can’t answer questions about the menu, especially if it’s just not something they’ve personally eaten then you only get “I have no opinion.” Serving staff should have a well versed knowledge of the menu. The other server scolded a table for wanting to be re-sat at a table located in the sun with a mostly empty dinning room. The patron mentioned it was her birthday and the server said “even though it’s your birthday, this section would have more tables than the other section then.” That’s not a legitimate reason not to be able to move with 6 occupied tables in the place, even though it’s near lunch time. Clearly the staff is not here for the guest. It’s a Tuesday in Spring, relax.
Nice lunch. Sandwich combo with pie spice. Very pleasant. Not crazy about sweet bread with cranberries.
Good chicken Wild Rice soup served with slab of homemade bread.
Skip Betty's Pies and drive another 10 minutes up the road. Everything is made from scratch. The wild rice meatloaf is amazing. Leave room for pie. I had the raspberry creme pie and it was incredible.
The food was delicious and the wait times on a weekday were not too bad... The pies were the best and the gift shop adjacent had so many lovely trinkets that I wish I didn t have baggage weight restriction on my way back.
My wife and I made the one hour drive up from Duluth to enjoy one of the north shore's gems. The service we received was personable, professional and thoughtful. Our food arrived promptly and was both hot and delicious. The piece de resistance however is The Rustic's AMAZING pies. Their superbly delectable fillings nestled within homemade crusts are incomparable. Be sure to save room and be prepared to take more home. You won't be sorry!
The best food we have had out to eat in a long time. We had the meatloaf and walleye....both were excellent. The pie is exceptional, especially the raspberry and lemon cream. We will definitely come here again on our next trip up north.
Very good food, great service from Susan. We haven’t tried the pie yet but will try it on the next visit. Absolutely recommend stopping here.
Had to wait about 15 minutes for a table but we walked around the gift shop to kill time. Food was great, pie was even better.
The rustic Inn has become a Duluth tradition!. We always find time to enjoy the best pies in two harbors. Fabulous service ,divine food, and the most memorable pies!.
Dinner was pretty good. The raspberry rhubarb pie was delicious and the carrot cake was also good. The truffles are good as well. I love that all the artwork displayed in the restaurant is for sale!
What a great stop along the north shore. The food was great with some good local flair mixed in. Of course, the pies are an attraction here, and we went with the North Shore one. Sooooo good and I am not even a pie lover unless you are talking key lime pie. Friendly folks and I would stop here every time.
