I went up with a group after Labor Day, hoping it wouldn't be too busy. It wasn't. The first two days were cancelled due to weather, but we went out the third day. The water was surprisingly shallow in many spots and I got stuck in some rocks. Staff at Port Austin Kayak & Bike were not easy to get hold of, but were polite and very helpful when we did make contact. For a newbie, this was a very easy trip (my second kayak trip ever) and taking a picnic lunch for eating at Turnip Rock was superb! PAKs was closed, so there was no post adventure celebration there. In fact, nearly everything in the area was closed during the week. I would most certainly recommend this company (good equipment, safe) and this trip, just go before Labor Day and plan for cancellations due to weather. We also rented a bicycle one day. Affordable, fitted the rider to his large size, and provided the helmet. Easy to find, work with, and would recommend them. Their recommended bike routes were on streets. I wonder how busy those streets are during tourist season?

We really enjoyed our kayak trip to Turnip Rock. The young man at the shop was really helpful and easy going. If you forget anything they have it there to purchase. They also have big bathrooms to change clothes in. The whole thing was easy and low stress. Maybe plan on finding parking on the street. Not a ton of parking in their lot- that was the only potential stress. We had a beer and snack at Paks after the kayaking and it was just a fun day!

I rented kayaks with a few of my friends last Saturday. This place was just easy. The checkin counter was conveniently located and quick to checkin. Nick was very friendly and answered all of my questions! Highly recommend if you are in the area.

My husband and I had a great time. The kayaks were in good condition and 4 hours was the right amount of time to see all that we wanted. The staff was friendly and helpful

We did the kayak to turnip rock with our dog (2 year old 35 lb mini goldendoodle). She fit perfectly in the kayak and had the best time. There are parts of the trip where the water is only about 1 ft deep so we were able to let her get out and cool off. Port Austin Kayak was so awesome and supportive of us bringing her. Can’t say enough about them and their staff!

When they are actually open it really is a great experience. Worth doing for sure. Unfortunately they are usually closed at least 5 days of the week. No joke. Look at their Twitter feed where it updates you on if it's too windy or not, and about every 5 or 6 days the weather is good to rent out. Safety is important obviously, but maybe they need to lower the threshold on when people can go out. Anything over 5-7mph wind which is pretty much every day on the lake and they close. Hence why they are closed all the time. Don't take my word for it, check their Twitter and see how often they aren't open. I just checked the last 14 days, and they've been open 2 times. You just can't plan a trip here based on kayaking with them.

Great experience! Booking a kayak was easy, they kept their website updated with weather forecast. Our first attempt to kayak to Turnip Rock was cancelled due to high winds. They called us early to cancel and immediately refunded ua for the trip. We were able to go out the next time we booked and had a wonderful time. Highly recommend.

Great service!!! When you look at the map, it may look like a long long trip. Don't be discouraged!!! The trip isn't that long and it's so beautiful the whole way!! We made appointment via on their website and it was smooth sailing!

Didn’t really make it because of the windy weather and lack of experience but the booking process, communication with the business and refund policy were top notch!

We've been here twice and have had nothing but stellar service. Employes are knowledgeable and helpful. Easy to book a kayak trip and no problem getting out on the water as soon as we arrived! Had an absolute blast kayaking - water is translucent! Definitely worth a couple trips every summer here when the weather is good.

Girls trip! Easy to secure a rental on line, kayaks clean, friendly staff, twitter updates were great regarding weather updates, we packed snacks in a small packable cooler and water to drink. We did both kayak trips-one each day. Decided on morning trip for both. Easy parking, but lot was small, so if you go later in the day you might have to park somewhere else. We stayed in Port Hope in a tent at LightHouse County Park. Clean, quiet, definitely recommend this if you dont want to pay hotel prices. Oh and we stayed for the Farmer's Market after we kayak on Saturday morning- definitely recommend this market. Dont forget sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, watershoes plus extra clothes for afterwards (in case you get wet) and waterproof case for phones

One of the best Kayak experience I had in my life. Beautiful weather was a blessing too. Checkin was breeze. Keep an eye out for email/text notifications as they very often convey if any change in weather is likely to take place. So it did happen on D-day & they informed to come early if possible as weather was expected to get rough in the afternoon. All in all we had a blast and wonderful weekend. I’ll always cherish this trip going down the memory lane. Thanks PAK for this amazing experience.

Huron, no fault of PAK. Nice t-shirt shop. Nice helpful workers, that let us leave out a little earlier than our RSVP. Saw a family of loons, an eagle, a big pike or musky, and even had a cool fly over, with a “hello” wing tip from 3 wart hog jets. Must RSVP for a weekend trip. Go in the week, if possible.
