First of all, everything is gluten-free. With that said, I truly feel like we sampled the entire store, and each pastry was better than the next. Second, the owner and her daughter were extremely helpful and gave honest suggestions. There are lots of Dairy-free options as well. Great breakfast and sandwiches selections with fresh ingredients. Hard ciders and gluten-free beer, too. A definite MUST visit for anyone who enjoys a gluten-free diet.
All gluten free cafe !!!! We guarantee you will fall in love with all of their homemade baked goods. We were so lucky to find them while visiting Damarascotta. The beautiful family you will meet is a bonus !
We love this little bakery! I myself have multiple food allergies, one of them being anaphylactic, and I live with a family who has gluten and dairy allergies, so understanding this is a definitely SAFE place to eat matters a lot. We love bringing my best friend’s toddler here for safe breakfast and the owner and her staff are always so kind to him! The food is fantastic, and the hot items are made to order. I’ve had a breakfast sandwich, the pancakes, muffins, and more. I’m always so excited to find a gem like this downtown. I wish the owner the best and a successful sale, we will definitely be coming back regularly.
Cafe does a very nice job with gluten free baked goods, which is challenging work for sure. Had a muffin that was indistinguishable from traditional ones. Such a treat. Coffee and egg sandwich were also good. Owners are super nice. Wish them continued success!
Its so nice to be able to go to a place and not have to worry at all about what i can have on the menu. Always feel welcome and everything is delicious!
Loved their breakfast sandwich! Their food is so good- I couldn't tell it was gluten free. Will def be going back there when I visit my friend.
Food was absolutely incredible. I got the creamy squash soup and a honey BBQ chicken wrap, same as a group of women who complained about everything being too spicy and bad on their palates (so of course I had to see what was up). Not sure what their problem was, but it was incredible. I have a very low spice tolerance, and it was a perfect balance of tender chicken, honey and hot peppers. The soup was very low on spice as well, perfectly manageable and tender. Would absolutely eat food here again. Don't listen to all of the horrible people giving one stars, they just expect too much from the owner, who works incredibly hard to give customersthe best experience possible. Do better customers, you are not kings and queens, you're all humans, they're not servants to bow at your feet. Do better.
Such a gem! It's wonderful being able to go into a cafe where I can eat anything. Everything that we tried was delicious! The bread is heavenly. The owner took the time to go over the descriptions of all the ciders and beers with us. Great experience, would definitely recommend!
I an so thankful for thus place. It is amazing and rare to be able to order anything and know I won't get glutened.
EXTREMELY RUDE owner & employees that need to learn appropriate customer service skills & behaviors!!!!! As someone that suffers with celiac disease, (and a visitor from the nearby town of Warren) I was so excited to try this place out! A dedicated gluten-free bakery is a gem to find. I walked in with a group of gregarious friends, and, as I was not the one to open the door myself, missed signs on the door mentioning to not bring in outside food. Unfortunately, my friends & I had take out food from another establishment (wrapped in to go containers AND bagged) , as we were being patrons to the local businesses in Damariscotta while there for the day. OH. MY. GAWD. We were LITERALLY YELLED at by the OWNER for being there with PACKAGED food not bought from this establishment. Absolutely unacceptable behavior from any employee of any company, let alone an OWNER! Oh, just wait for the "reply from owner" about this - the claim being they are concerned only for making for a safe place for those suffering celiac disease to eat GF food and maintain their certification. (See every nasty, passive-aggressive reply to any low-starred review). GUESS WHAT??? I have owned Certified Gluten Free food businesses and to be "certified gluten free", one must have 20parts per million or less of gluten in the air - WHICH MEANS .... food IN PACKAGES AND BAGGED will NOT cross-contaminate the gluten free environment of a place like ButterUpCakes Cafe!! Bottom line, if you vote with your $ and value kind customer service, I would not recommend supporting this establishment.
Extremely rude, very poor customer service. Chose not buy from them because of how they handled a situation. They do not allow outside food or drink because they are a dedicated gluten free facility and they could lose their certification if anything were to happen, which is understandable and appreciated. They do have signs to not bring anything in, although the reasoning is not explained so one would assume it was because they didn’t want you to eat someone else’s food in their store, again understandable. Someone was in front of me while entering, so I didn’t see the signs, but the way they yelled (literally) at me and my companions was ridiculous and could have been handled much better than it was. Spoken to like misbehaving dogs. Will personally not try to go here again
A safe place to eat for people with Celiac. Dedicated gluten-free, they fiercely protect the environment so people who need gluten-free (really gluten-free) options can feel safe eating here. We've had the pizza, beef stew, sandwiches, the pies (as in chicken pot and seafood), the cookies, the macaroons, the cake ... all delicious! We're about 2 hours away and the drive is totally worth it! If you're looking for gluten-free options in the area, you'll find nothing better and nothing safer than ButterUpCakes!
The food is amazing! I'm so glad that a GF place opened up in this small town. If I wasn't trying to lose weight, I'd come here daily for their sweets. Reasonable prices and friendly folks make it all the better.
Really surprised this spot was rated so highly. My first visit was wildly disappointing. I ordered a black coffee that was weak and lukewarm. To eat, I ordered a Breakfast Bowl, which promised potato, veg, eggs and meat. I was surprised they offered DF cheese, which was great. But, the bowl itself was mostly potatoes, undercooked veg and cheese that hadn’t melted yet. I couldn’t find the eggs. Decided to give this spot another go as there’s not much else for GF options in town (even at the co-op). Was pretty surprised they were “already out” of GF bagels as they opened. Got a bacon, egg and DF cheese on an English Muffin that tasted stale and again with unmelted cheese. Staff was nice enough and I’m over masking, but if you’re going to mask, might as well wear it correctly over your nose? Kind of seems this spot only stays open because it’s the only spot offering GF. It’s not staying open because it’s good. Expensive for what it is.
Pleasant looking on the outside, nasty and bitter on the inside. Incredibly rude to customers and doesn’t know what a bagel is.
Brownie was 10/10 The other baked goods looked real good. Ice coffee was 4/10 Tip: iced coffee is easy to make, just put hot coffee in fridge and you will get more business . Cold brew is even better. It was 90 degrees and no air conditioning . Why lol If they fix 2 and 3 then 10/10
This bakery is the best! With a gluten allergy, it’s so nice to be able to order anything on the menu and not worry about whether or not it’s safe to eat.
The coffee was so bad, basically hot water. When I complained and asked for it to be replaced, they refused in a condescending way. The doughnuts were way too sweet, the scones like glue. A very disappointing experience. Never going back again.
I got the Tuna sandwich and the strawberry shake. Both were amazing. The sandwich was delicious and the homemade bread the texture and taste were on point. The strawberry shake was a bonus! I highly recommend it. The cafe was comfortable and very well decorated. The staff is very friendly and attentive. This is a great little cafe
This place was delicious and 100% safe for my celiac disease. I have never felt so comfortable in a place but when I walked in, I felt so comfortable and how I can eat my Favorite types of cookies and a breakfast burrito. Great service!! I love how it’s Gluten Free. Also great customer service. The owner and family were amazing.
