I have nothing but positive things to say about this place. I went for breakfast at this sit down cafe, and was not disappointed. First, the vibe. Very Maine, very comforting. I sat in a corner booth with real cushions and it was so cozy. Second, the staff. Very friendly and personable. Never had to ask for a refill on my coffee. Even helped me decide on my meal. And with that, the third, food. I got the sagadahoc bennie that came with home fries. Not your typical home fries. Nice spice to them, not overcooked. The bennie was so flavorful. The smoked salmon was fantastic. The hollandaise sauce was just sweet enough. I highly recommend this place. It will not disappoint.
Food was great but the service was better! Server Carrie made us laugh and gave us a memorable experience! Definetly will be back!

The food was delicious and healthy, you could tell they cared about what they are serving customers. The layout and decor was really nice and the staff were great.
This place is a gem! The food is always fresh, and the flavors are so yummy! Breakfast and dessert are the go-to!
Our first time there. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast! We love to try places for breakfast, and we recommend this one for sure! Every person there was very kind . We will definitely go again!
Honesty just awful. The fact that they get to keep all of the positive reviews from the prior establishment is very misleading. The corned beef skillet tastes like it was cooked on a dirty grill. The potatoes dry and dehydrated and entire dish with not much hollandaise. I've been here MANY times over the years and sadly it's just gone steadily downhill. The cooks are clearly not skilled and it shows. Furthermore, the entire place is filthy. Dirt and hand prints everywhere, I didn't even feel comfortable using the bathroom. We got lunch to go just in case it was maybe just our breakfast but it's not. My husband had the crab cake bene and it was the worst crab cakes I've had in my life. I spit them out. I need to add, I've wanted to write this review for a LONG time but ive refrained bc of the pandemic. At this point, some(all) of these issues should have been addressed. We won't be back.
If you go to Mae's Cafe for breakfast, make sure to try their blueberry pancakes. They are delicious , I also had for breakfast their spinich tortilla Cascadias . I highly recommend this place.
My husband and I join a group of neighbors at Mae’s most Sundays for breakfast/brunch. We have had many different options…omelettes, egg sandwiches, quiches, pancakes, French toast, breakfast bowls, quesadillas, lunch sandwiches and soups, all of which have been wonderful. The cinnamon swirl toast is incredibly delicious. And, oh, the bacon - the best ever. Pastries and sweets from the front case are always scrumptious…the plate-sized cinnamon buns, ginger cookies (also enormous) and lemon bars being personal favorites. If you plan to take home a cinnamon bun, ask for it to go when you place your breakfast order as they often sell out. Kristine, Lisa and Paige never fail to be very pleasant and attentive while taking our orders and serving us, even at busy times, and Julie greets all in the lobby with warmth and charm. If you haven’t had the pleasure of eating at Mae’s, you owe it to yourself to try it soon…you won’t be disappointed!!
First I will say the only reason to go to Mae's is the french toast, it is undeniably good but that is the only positive thing I can say about my experiences here. This used to be my preferred breakfast spot and now I honestly think its my last choice locally. The food is outrageously priced for what it is (quality and amount) and the wait staff is really not attentive at all. The last time I went in I waited 17 minutes for someone to come get our order and at that point we just left and the worst part about that experience is we were 1 of 3 tables in the restaurant and the other 2 tables already had food/had most of their dining needs cared for. It took me going to every other spot locally to realize that: Pricing is insane, wait staff is not attentive, and they have the worst eggs benedict I've had in Maine. Southgate in Bath, Kopper Kettle in Topsham, and Marketplace Cafe in Wiscasset all have WAY better food and service if you're looking to mix it up. I really want to like Mae's but its really hard to. I would like to start by saying that I have worked in the restaurant industry for 16 years, in Boston, Nashville, and various cities in southern Maine. I’ve worked as both a server and bartender, but stepped in as a host and even manager on many occasions as well. I understand that Mae’s is under new ownership, and today would have been my first time dining there since the ownership has changed. Today I arrived with a friend for breakfast at 10:30. Knowing it was a Sunday and would be busy, I planned to only stay if the wait was under an hour, as I was to work this afternoon. The male who appeared to be the host informed us the wait was “only about 30 minutes,” so we stayed and waited outside. We waited outside because the waiting area was packed inside with guests standing shoulder to shoulder. We came back in to check on the wait once after exactly 30 minutes, and we were told it would be another 10-15 mins, so back outside we went! The second time we came back in to check after only 10 minutes, and we were informed that our name was called but because we were outside our table was given away. I asked why the host hadn’t poked his head outside to call for us there and we were told by (who I can only guess was an owner or manager) that breakfast restaurants are very busy on Sundays and they were under-staffed. Having experience working in an under-staffed restaurant, I understood that this sometimes happens. I asked the woman (an owner/manager?) how much longer she thought we would have to wait for another table, to which she reiterated how busy they are on Sundays and mentioned that she was NOT a host so she did not want to give misleading information. I was quite appalled by the lack of communication and the attitude we seemed to receive after waiting (what ended up being an hour) for a table. I had seen a 2-top be cleaned and re-set, so I suggested to her that we might sit at that table. She replied that it doesn’t matter if a table is set, there may not be a s

Everything you could want from a breakfast place and bakery! I tried one of their specials, the corned beef hash. You can tell stuff is made in house and fresh. Worth the visit.

Pancakes were salty. Med rare burger was well done to extreme. Staff was alright but alright Doesnt mean great.
Room temp swiss miss hot cocoa made in water. "Brussel sprout hash" is closer to "uncooked cabbage with bacon bits" I feel bad for the serving staff with a kitchen this weak
Mae's is my favorite place to go out for breakfast in town. They always have yummy specials to try or you can't go wrong with one of their omelettes. And the desserts they have up front are good to-go items. Sitting outside on the porch is always a treat although it is also lovely inside as well! You can't go wrong with one of their brunch cocktails added to the meal either!
