Great food and ambiance, moderate pricing. They even had a bloke with a Brit accent waiting on us. Also very handy it doesn’t close between lunch and dinner.
This place was outstanding!! We had 10 in our group and Sierra was the best server. The fish and chips were great. By far some of the freshest we have had here in Indiana. We will be back for sure. Thank you for a fantastic experience.
This place is amazing. Food is delicious. Staff is friendly. Has indoor and outdoor seating. The place is very cute. The soups are amazing!
Delicious fish and chips. The bangers and mash were also great. They have a black bean dip with tortilla chips they serve complementary that had the best seasoning ever. We definitely will go back.
Outstanding experience! Highly highly recommend this place, food was awesome! Best fish I've ever had! Ethan was a great server! I will definitely be coming back!!!
Gas City Indiana - who knew?!?! Highway billboard boasting British fare. It's Friday - we're looking for fish - why not! Friendly greeting when we walked in. Very tidy and cozy eatery. The menu wasn't extravagant, but suffice variety making us wish we ate meat on Fridays!!! Server brought black bean dip and chips to start. We ordered and our meal was delivered expeditiously. Cooked perfectly. Not greasy! We paid the upchufoe the mashed peas. Not sure what they put in the tartar sauce, but it's delicious. Our salad was fattoush! Hubs enjoyed a Haze Stupid and I enjoyed a Strongbow cider. All lovely. We're traveling and once again got lucky and found a non-chain restaurant and a wonderful dining experience!
First time there for my Birthday celebration with a great friend. The food was absolutely amazing!!
Really enjoyed this place! A unique menu, great food, and really friendly staff. This is the kind of place that doesn't look like much from the outside but pays off for those willing to be a little adventurous!
We are from out of town. Pleasantly surprised to find this gem! Great food and beverage choices. We loved what we ordered. The service was great and I loved the atmosphere. We will definitely stop in again! The best part, our dog was welcome outside.
Well I finally got to go to Paynes and it did not disappoint,The raspberry potato salad with fresh spinach was amazing. Then I was torn between the fish and chips or the English curry so I got both and took one home. Atmosphere was friendly waitress was attentive coffee was fresh prices were very good.I will be back for the bangers and mash
Fantastic find. All I needed was tv screens showing the Primer League games to enjoy the Bangers. Fish n Chips were huge and classic. Don't be fooled by the outside or the inside. Just enjoy!
Was looking forward to a nice British stew.. instead I was served two large Yorkshire tops with lots of mushroom, carrots and ground beef crumble in a gravy??? The gravy is was cooked in had too much Worcester sauce. Where was the nice chunks of stewing beef?? Very disappointing!! Save yourself and eat next door at the Crackle Barrel!
It's such an eclectic place . . . hard to describe, but the FOOD! Always good. Things I wouldn't expect, like sausage and cabbage soup, are truly delicious. Best fish and chips! I wind up going with whatever is recommended that day. We drive in from Indy - it's THAT good.
A really unique little British Pub style restaurant that hasn't changed all that much since the 1st time I visited them. Years ago, they were surrounded by empty fields, and now they are surrounded by new hotels, gas stations, and a growing commercial area. While Payne's has grown in size, their food is still based on British Pub food. My dinner partner had the Beef Stew and Yorkshire pudding followed by Rhubarb Crunch with ice cream for dessert. I had the Banger and Mash for dinner and Sticky Toffee with Cream for my meal. As always the wait staff were friendly and helpful. I will definitely reroute myself to Gas City Indiana the next time I am in the area.
Awesome British pub, very comfy and unique style. Fish & Chips and sticky toffee are amazing- we split the large fish for two people and it was plenty. The sweet potato soup was also great. Friendly servers. Just all around great place, glad we saw the billboard and stopped!
It was my first time experiencing this particular restaurant. The service was wonderful and the food was delicious. I had the apple, walnut, brie panini. Boy, was it yummy! I can't wait to go back!!
The waitstaff was friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately one of the male staffers stood and belched loudly near our table as he was getting ready to bus a table. He didn't excuse himself and seemed indifferent to customers. We had the fish and chips. The fish had piece's that were doughy , my drink was delicious.and people seem to enjoy their food. Overall, because of the waitstaff the young lady that gave us great service ,I would give it a second chance.
“Tea Payne” and seemingly a portal sending you to a comforting & hearty meal in England and then back to IN about your business. This place literally found me gasping out loud at the dinner table “I didn’t even know my cooking sucked until now…eating this is so delicious I feel like I don’t even know how to cook at all lol!”. We’re allays full by dessert but the sticky toffee dessert and ice cream to go did not disappoint later on either! On a random snowy blizzard night in March this place truly hit the spot and I was surprised to learn they are a hidden gem in a convenient location and not a huge chain franchise either……feel even better about going here!!! I don’t give 5 stars lightly and my honey and I were so impressed that we have since vowed to return enough times to try everything out on their menu!!! Do yourself a favor and eat here before too many people find out and they are reservation only! I apologize in advance but it was so good I just cannot help myself…I’ve already told like 10 people today!
I've driven past signs for this restaurant for years but never stopped until just now. Amazing traditional British food, friendly people, and cozy atmosphere made this a great unexpected stop. I'll be taking my whole family on our next trip up from Indianapolis to Michigan.
This is truly a unique restaurant and a must try if you're ever passing through. The decor of this place definitely makes you feel like you're in a different country. The food was awesome and the service did not disappoint. We will plan to stop here every time we head north.
