The extremely loud noise level in this restaurant ruins an otherwise terrific experience. The food is excellent, the drinks and wines are tasty, and the service is good. However, we had to almost shout to hear each other at our table of four people. The decibel level was so high that I had a headache and ringing ears when I left the restaurant. We really enjoy the food, but we won't go back because we can't enjoy conversation with our friends. We've been to this restaurant 2-3 times because we really liked the food, but it's so loud that my primary recollection from last night was not how good the food was, but the cacophonous noise level, making it an overall unpleasant experience
I went there with a group of friends who had never been to a Portuguese restaurant. The food was authentic and the service was ok. There is an "à la carte" menu and a taste menu that consists of a starter, a main, and a dessert. The taste menu had less dishes and the server told us that either all of us choose the taste menu or that's not available. This was inconvenient. The Pastel de Nata tasted frozen and re-heated in the microwave. This was a disappointment. The food quality doesn't match the prices.
Yummy fresh Portuguese food that is worth a second visit. Make reservations. It gets packed.
Unexpectedly excellent! Had food, drinks, and dessert and there was not a single miss among these. This was our first time having Portuguese food- not sure if it’s normally this good or we got lucky. On the pricier side, and the tables felt a bit close together where we were seated, but otherwise everything else was great.
Uma Casa was a wonderful dining experience! The service was excellent, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was relaxed. The porter house steak is perfect for two people, just make sure to order extra of the butter dipping sauce. We also really liked the appetizer selection, which has an excellent assortment of Portuguese tasters.
The main reason I wanted to go there was to try their pastéis de bacalhau, traditional Portuguese codfish fritters, caldo verde - Portuguese Green soup, Sardinhas Grelhadas - Grilled Sardines. Pastéis de bacalhau - The texture of bacalhau was so spongy, stringy. What a perfect combination of potato and cod! Potato flavor is not overpowering. it was perfectly juicy cod with well preserved saltiness. Caldo Verde - as it boils, it gets more intense. hint of sourness, starchiness of potato make your belly warm. It was great starter! Sardinhas Grelhadas - i love the way they grill(or broil) the fish. I am not sure if they have Churrasco cooking method. anyway, I know that one of the hardest thing of grilling Sardine is to get rid of the odor, unpleasant fishy smell from sardine. Sardine that was so meaty, juicy, oily, has lots of grilled flavor. Arroz De Marisco - Seafood was so freshly good! Unlike Spanish Paella, It is not completely reduced. it is almost like thickened rice and seafood stew. There was so much seafoods - clams, cod, shrimp you can taste in one plate. Frango piri-piri - it is like more Mozambican food. But It was so remarkable!! The last but not least, Their aioli is so second to none such as Cilantro aioli, spicy Piri-Pri aioli.
Not necessarily a Portuguese entree menu with slow cooked beef with collared greens. Tasted good but you expect that at $36 plus tip, sales tax, and 5% San Francisco tax. They brought me the wrong entree that I didn’t order. The staff didn’t bring out me and my partner’s entrees out not even within 10 minutes of each other. Our 2 desserts came out 10 minutes apart too. I asked for an espresso and they brought me a regular coffee. Unacceptable performance from a “high end” restaurant.
The sheer amount of noise made conversation very hard but that's the main ding, which isn't bad. The service was good & props to the kitchen for accommodating special requests. Everything quite delicious with a very elegant & modern take on Portuguese food. My short ribs were heavenly & the pasteis de bacalhau was light & crunchy take on the bacalauitos I'm more familiar with. The Arroz de Pato was wonderful, the saltiness of the duck breast injecting a bright note of flavor into the rice fritter. I highly recommend.
Really enjoyed my experience at Uma Casa. Enjoyed all of the fish dishes and the desserts were fire. Highly recommend
The food is flavorful, but my dish wss a little too salted.
An afternoon of heaven! Thank you, Uma Casa! We'll never forget our time with you. Let us know about the Azores culinary trip! Jerry & Alice Solomon
Wow. Nearly perfect first meal there last night. Started with the arugula and shaved cheese salad, really well balanced, simple salad. Next we shared the shrimp turnovers appetizer filled with molten béchamel and a spicy aioli and they were beyond delicious, just such a incredible blend of rich flavors without ever being greasy or overwhelming. For our small plate, we had the grilled octopus and this is a must try, perfectly cooked and accented with some savory veggies. Last but definitely not least, we ended with the salt cod casserole, probably the best version of that dish I've ever had. Rare that every single dish was a hit but that was the happy case here. Service was friendly and well paced. Ambience was energetic but warm. Highly recommended.
This place is amazing! Service, atmosphere, and most importantly the food was amazing!!
Delicious cocktails, great wine, and tasty plates! I look forward to coming back and trying more
Food was ok. I haven't been to Portugal but as an experienced cook and frequent diner, the seven dishes that we shared were nothing special. The noise level was deafening. The three of us had to lean into the table to hear one another. On the plus side, the orange olive oil cake was quite good and the passion fruit sorbet served with it was terrific. We won't be returning.
Really wonderful service, great vibe. Would go back and get the 3 course dinner instead of the 4, as their serving size is larger than I expected. Recommend the gambas and flan.
Wedding dinner. Food was MAGNIFICENT. been to Portugal multiple times. Food is great. This BETTER. go here. Especially if u don't think u like Portuguese cuisine. Chef/owner is wonderful. Cheers.
Excellent modern Portuguese cuisine. We were in Portugal for the summer and really missed the food there. Uma Casa really hits the spot for our Portuguese food craving. The pastel de nata was probably as good as it gets in terms of housemade (but it is no match for Pastéis de Belém.
Fantastic! Great unique food, don’t sleep on the pork and seafood stew or olive oil cake.
Definitely a quality Portuguese restaurant. Cod fritters, gambas, piri piri chicken, caldo verde. All were excellent. They also have a good selection of Portuguese beverages. It's definitely a bit overpriced though. And while the pastel de nata is good, it doesn't have the flaky crust or the burnt sugar taste of the ones in Portugal.
