Ordered Cotado, Cappuccino and Matcha Latte. All worth a try.
I usually don’t like chai latte but had to give a try here after reading the reviews. I got chai latte with cardamon. It was really good. Actually my first time liking a chai latte. The service was great too. I will come back.
Absolutely UNMATCHED! The flavors, ambiance and energy of this historic landmark has made me a customer for life. It’s the perfect place to catch up over coffee, meet new people or work on ur laptop. The rich flavorful spices are soul renewing- have never experienced a drink like Blackies 💗Spend ur dollar at this Black owned shop instead of Starbucks
If you are out for coffee or tea and want to try something different, then just standard Starbucks. I would highly recommend it. Owned by a kenyan person who is friendly and humorous. Place serves palatable coffee and teas and has tasty cinnamon bread
Fantastic coffee and smoothies. Love the interior as well. Will be back!!
The Matcha latte left me absolutely speechless. This hole-in-the wall coffee shop is decorated by photos of various revolutionaries throughout history, complimented by smooth jazz absolutely blows away any coffee shop in the Los Angeles area. I would give it 5 stars, but I don’t feel like that would do this place justice.
Absolutely incredible in all of the ways a place can be. We’re excited to keep coming back and trying more of the menu.
The owner is a gem. He told us all about his unique offerings, lots of different things to try and keep you coming back! Would definitely recommend for a unique experience or just a cozy sit-down cafe. Great quirky atmosphere as well.
Great Coffee, super nice guy.
I got a latte that was SO GOOD it transformed my entire day. The man behind the counter was the sweetest, kindest and most interesting person I have met in a long time. This is now my favourite coffee place in downtown by a wide margin.
One of my favorite dtla daytime hang outs
Heavenly! I can’t recommend this place enough. The kindest server was behind the counter, they know their chai, and they create an incredible atmosphere.
It's just not an opinion, it's a belief. Best coffee place in LA. Try medidate coffee with your drinks. It's a coffee from Date seeds. Every morning, I add it with my coffee or just make coffee out of it. It brightens your morning. I feel more active and less anxious in the morning.
Such a hidden gem in the middle of downtown LA. It's not a very large place (there are only about 4-5 tables, and they're communal), but what a vibe. The owner is super chill. I came here for breakfast two days in a row while I was visiting. I tried the cardamom chai latte, the matcha mint latte, the banana nut bread, and the avocado toast. Everything was delicious. The chai lattes are made from scratch (no concentrate here) and I think he probably even uses some non-standard type of sweetener (date syrup, maybe?) because everything he made was like nothing I've ever tasted before. I really enjoyed sitting at one of the communal tables leafing through some of the house's collection of books that are strewn on the tables. One of them was a collection of Rumi poems and I ended up having a discussion with my friend about Rumi and other mystics. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for outstanding chai in DTLA.
Like a home away from home, with some of the spiciest warm drinks you could dream of. While Blackie serves the fine, healthy ingredients, opting for date syrup sweetener over sugar and freshly ground spices, the vibes are what really pull me in. Always dig the tunes, provocative literature & art is everywhere, and this attracts just the crowd I enjoy spending time and space around. This is such a sweet spot for community in DTLA! And the Dirty Chai is something I crave between visits.
This small coffee shop has real character! The owner-operator is a eal artist, and it shows in every square inch of this space: from the artwork on the walls, the books and periodicals (includig self published pieces) on the tables and shelves, the photos of pop culture an political figures on the walls. And he crafts the drinks himself, by hand. (I had a cup of Chai, my vegan friend, a made to order - she has specific health requirements - matcha latte - both excellent.) He also has plenty of outlets for people to plug into. Recommend!
Coffee and atmosphere is excellent. Didn't even need to add sugar to my cappuccino because the coffee was that good. I haven't tried any of the food yet
Such a lovely, inviting place! I had one of the best matcha lattes - the owner added mint and cinnamon, was perfect.
Amazing smoothies, friendly service. Loved the Blackie Bohemian book of questions, it allowed my partner and I to spark a conversation after a long morning. Will be back!
Amazing Cardamom ginger chai latte!!
