On 15 September 2022 googled full hookup camping sites near the Matanuska glacier and the Grand View Cafe & RV Park popped up. I read over their website and decided it would be a perfect place to stay for our last rv camping trip of the year. I had no problem making reservations online for 17 September 2022, got a confirmation email that they had charged my credit card so I then booked a guided hiking trip on the Matanuska glacier for the 18th. My 8 year old daughter was super excited to visit the glacier. The morning of the 17th, we got everything packet up except our generator, who needs a generator when you have full hookups, right? We stopped a few places on the 100+ mile trip and got to the Grand View Cafe & RV Park around 3pm to find the place empty and the gates locked. With not enough room on their driveway to park I had to keep going up the road a few miles to a turnout to stop. After a long drive my daughter wanted to get out and stretch her legs while I called the Grand View Cafe & RV Park. Over the next 30 minutes and repeated calls I gave up after getting the same voice mail message over and over. Just then my daughter sprained her ankle in the grass of the turnout. With no generator, an injured child, and no response from the Grand View Cafe & RV Park, I decided to head back to Anchorage. Mind you, there is nothing on their website about a closing and one would assume everything was find if the reservation part of their site allowed you to book a spot and charged you for it! God only knows when or if I'll get my money refunded!
Very clean. They got good food options in the restaurant. Great place with great views.
So we had booked a night here but due to progressing our RV journey the day before found that we were in the area a night early. The building was closed but the owners were doing admin so i knocked and asked if we could stay a night early. They couldn't do enough to help and quickly settled us into the site so we could relax (it had been a long day). The pitches are pleasant with full service (including cable TV!). The only slight negative (and it is slight) is that being next to a road there was some road noise but its Alaska and that means less than one vehicle an hour during the night! We decided to have dinner in the restaurant and was very impressed, the lady owner is lovely and made a fuss of my daughter who had just got her exam results that morning and was celebrating her grades. The food was good but strangely served on small plates which meant they were piled high! I had the fish and chips and jolly good it was, i couldn't help noticing the table next to us as we left were having pizza and it looked amazing. Was happy all in all and would stay there again happily.
Love the pizza there sadly the cook had enough and left for good.
Our group of 6 dropped into Grand View Cafe for a quick lunch before driving onto Anchorage. It served its purpose but was nothing remarkable food-wise. I ordered the Chicken Fried Rice and I should have known better than to get it in remote Alaska. While a sizable portion, it left a lot to be desired. There was nothing really remarkable about this dish compared to others I've had. They have an extensive menu with foods of all flavor profiles and origins. I would be open to trying something different as those in my group enjoyed their meals. The service was a bit slow for what I was hoping for during lunch. There were two people inside working the front counter and one person cooking. With six of us arriving I expected it to be a bit slower but not as long as we waiting. Plus, one member of our group had their order get lost. Our group sat outside to enjoy the views of the glacier and mountains around us. This did not disappoint and if you're stopping here for a quick bite and the weather is nice, absolutely make it a point to sit outside or at least by a window!
For restaurant- Very good food at reasonable price. For RV park- full hookup, clean bathrooms. Conveniently located 15 minutes away from the Matanuska Glacier.
The food is very tasty, especially the beef noodle soup! The RV site and facilities are very clean and well maintained. The host couples are very nice and hospitable. Whether you are visiting the Matanuska glacier or just passing by, this is a great place to stay, rest and eat.
Great hike up the hill behind the park with a beautiful view of the glacier!
Amazingly BEAUTIFUL location and EXCELLENT food. very friendly staff
Super friendly owner, tasty food, and very reasonable price for full hookup RV spots! Fast WiFi too!
Great service, very friendly, super clean facilities, delicious food, and spectacular view! highly recommend!
VERY clean RV park in a beautiful area. We needed a place to do laundry (staying at a nearby campground), and stopped here for beers and coffee while we waited. FYI - we’re the computer dorks in the other review. We condensed to one table when it got busy. We are on work travel but in respect of the paying camp guests, we switched and used our hot spots. The Asian food smelled delicious and we 100% plan on coming back for that. EDIT: came back for lunch. We had Nancy’s dumplings and the chicken fried rice. Both hit the spot. Very reasonable prices.
Food is great and the owner is hospitable! Perfect spot for recharging after the glacier tour!
Very cozy place with wonderful view you can see the sheep by binoculars provided by them food was so delicious
Food was great and the prices are actually incredible. our waiter was a bit lost in a fun-dynamic way, tho. The deserts are just 😍
Abysmal service. They were full, so I suppose I have to give them that, but they had two tables occupied by 3 computer dorks who were pretending to work while buying nothing and just leeching internet. So myself and my kids had to eat midair because we're stuck at a table for 2. Food was passable, but imminently forgettable, and I had to get up from my seat multiple times to effectuate drinks, get my own menus, ask for a box, etc. Will not return. Bonus: the view ain't that grand.
RV was clean. Just the average Alaskan parking lot, but with spectacular views. Cafe was a plus, had a good breakfast.
This review is for the campground. Clean, individual bathrooms but very tight. Pay showers. Foilage between sites, which is rare in AK! Good, gravel sites, mostly level. Full hookup site was $69. Campground is well kept. Surrounded by mountains!
We are grateful for the accommodation for our trailer on July 3. They were full and we were allowed to park in the lot. We stayed an extra day in the best site#26. BTW strawberry rhubarb pie is delish
We stayed at Grand View RV Park June 30, 2022. It was 360⁰ of mountain views. It's peaceful minus the road noise but that didn't bother us at all. The staff is extremely friendly. We saw 6 Dall Sheep from out spot. If you go in the building they have binoculars to share and look for sheep. Clean showers for $3 in quarters and a laundry facility as well. Full hookup spots and a dump station for those that aren't. We had breakfast there and the food was really good. We will definitely come back. Thank you for a nice stay.
