New to the Raleigh area and it did not take long to fall in love with coffee here. While they do have lattes, this is not the place to get your super sugary drinks. Much more focused on the quality of the cup and serving really well balanced drinks.

Finally found a great local coffee shop! Now if your knowledge on coffee is a cup of Folders this may not be your place. The shop is really nice and modern, very hip. Not that many tables inside but other than that could not complain. Had a delicious Brown Sugar Latte with a chocolate muffin. Great way to start my morning!

2022 update: Probably the best coffee in the Raleigh area. The batch brew is always good, the pour overs are interesting, the espresso is very good, the steamed milk is nothing short of excellent (and makes milk drinks at most other cafes bad), and when they have flavored drinks they’re always really great and interesting and high quality. Like they had a homemade cola espresso soda thing a while back; that’s really cool and unique.

Oh and the beans are also very excellent. They have “normal” staples, lots of single origins, and typically a small rotation of more specialty or experimental things. Prices range from 18-24 or so, to sometimes much higher for one off batches.

Check out the Rolesville location if you want a ceramic cup and some food.

2018 me didn’t like change and also wasn’t really familiar with espresso at the time. They had just changed owners and were in the middle of a (still sort of weird/unprecedented) shift from an ok small town roaster to a world class roaster and cafe. But I will keep my previous review below.

Previous review from 2018 ish: I love this place, but part of the experience was the pour over slow bar. It's automated now. Even if it tastes better, half the reason I came was to experience a local hand made coffee. That sounds pretentious, but come on. They were super cool people. Now they just push a button and still charge $4 for a cup of coffee.

Their chai latte has way too much cinnamon. It is the only thing you can taste. I was told they added vanilla but it is not noticeable. The nitro was super watered down. There were no pastries or anything else unlike advertised. The atmosphere was very uncomfortable.

I have been a long time coffee lover and prefer the best quality. Coffee is one of those things I consider to be "my specialties" as a local guide and customer.

Black and White Coffee Roasters (formerly Back Alley) has been one of the top notch coffee stops for quality, price, service, and (most importantly) consistency. Environment is very welcoming and the staff is beyond friendly. Their revolutionary Nitro Cold Brew will amaze the palates of both beer and coffee-lovers.

This is my favorite coffee shop in the triangle. In house roasting, knowledgeable and friendly staff, nice seating area, and above all, excellent espresso, pour overs and cold brew. I haven’t found anything that I don’t like here.

I also buy their beans for brewing espresso at home. The beans are a couple bucks more than a bag of Counter Culture, but I like them better.

I recommend the cappuccino on cool days and the nitro cold brew on hot days. Their vanilla latte is excellent and not overly sweet.

Great selection of coffee blends for around the globe. Great wifi and Great staff! Seating can be limited.

Seriously incredible. Some of the best espresso drinks I’ve ever ad - awesome homemade syrups and seasonal flavors, even better coffee.

Best coffee in the area, hands down. My favorite place to get iced coffee and every bean ove tried so far has been excellent!

Best pour-over coffee in Wake Forest (and probably in the Raleigh area, in North Carolina, and maybe beyond). Found this place after living in the area for nearly a year, and the coffee is exceptional. I think I got drip rather than pour-over, and it was full-bodied and robust without being at all bitter. I bought a cup and brought it home to my wife, who can be hard to please when it comes to coffee. She took one sip and said, "That is really good!" Looking forward to going back.
