Came here on a Sunday for an early lunch before leaving Boone to head home.
They have outdoor seating which was a plus for having a dog.
The food was decent, but nothing to rave about. They have decent lunch specials and good prices overall.
A good spot, but I would look elsewhere for better over quality food.

As always, Red Onion exceeds my expectations.
My wife and I had a lovely dinner on their outdoor patio. The soup and our entrees were delicious. Service was superb. Atmosphere and the general quality of the restaurant was delightful.
As an AppState Alumni who has eaten here many times, I can promise you visiting the Red Onion is a must do in Boone.

Visited here for lunch on my anniversary trip to Boone with my wife. The greeter at the front complimented us on our anniversary-themed t-shirt. Our waitress was very kind and considerate, frequently checking in. We sat in a window table and the restaurant has some nice views of mountaintops. The environment is quaint and comfortable. The food was equally as good. We started with some artichoke dip with toasted bread. The bread was crispy and the dip was warm cheesy and artichokes were tender blending well as a dip with the bread. We also started with onion rings which were fried goodness. I had the spinach and chicken quesadilla for my main course and the quesadilla was warm, with gooey cheese, and delicious chicken complimented well with the spinach. If you are in the Boone area, this restaurant is one you have to try. Highly recommend.

This is a great find - thanks Yelp reviewers! Downtown Boone was busy this Saturday afternoon so we drove through and found that Red Onion Cafe had the best ratings and great views so we decided to check it out. We also had our big hound and were happy to see that they had a spacious outdoor patio.
Everything on the menu look good and we both ordered the combo specials. These are large portions and an appetizer and one combo would have been sufficient though we both loved our individual meals, even after the large plate of onion rings. Our server Brandon S was very attentive but not intrusive. We highly recommend the Red Onion Cafe to others, and especially if you're dining with your furry family members.

I visited for dinner in my second time dining in Boone. That’s neat as for services and the calming atmosphere of outdoor seating though it could be better sitting if the weather wasn’t gloomy. Every dishes and beverage ordered was terribly good! My waitress also offered me very warm hospitality so I’ll absolutely get here again soon!

Fantastic meal, well prepared. The fish was appropriately seasoned and the zucchini noodles were crisp. The Pizza to go was a souvenir of warm thoughts amidst inclement weather

The penne pasta with shrimp was delicious. I got the Delmonico and Daniel and Fish prepared a wonderful steak. It was perfection. Close to Appalachian State! Highly recommend Sophie as a server. She was attentive but not hovering and gave great suggestions.

We enjoyed everything, the outside porch with perfect weather, their service and most definitely the delicious food.

Generally a nice place. Service was good but a little slow. Food was decent but had minor issues like the chicken in the chicken sandwich was a bit on the tough side. Wanted to order a coffee but they did not have creamer like oat milk instead of dairy products.
