A great spot, however the coffee can be inconsistent sometimes. Sometimes my latte prices are different even though I order the same thing. I suggest being specific about the amount of syrup you want to prevent overly sweet drinks also, I tend to get 2 flavors and if I don't specify the coffee is grossly sweet. I enjoy the location and the interior. Be prepared to spend money, two items can reach 20 dollars by adding substitutes like almond milk. The staff is great and friendly and will help you with any questions you have.

I enjoy the location and the interior. Hip atmosphere commands hip prices, two items can reach 20 dollars by adding substitutes like almond milk. Did not feel pressured or guilted to tip like in other coffee shops. Still did though because the staff is phenomenal and friendly and will help you with any questions you have. Skilled and knowledgeable. Thanks for the afternoon pick me up!

One of the best coffee shops in downtown Syracuse.

You can even enjoy the spring breeze with delicious coffee at an outdoor table. The only sad thing is closing at 3 pm during the beautiful weekend.

Very comfortable place to sit for a coffee. Some unique flavor shots for your latte. There are ample plugs if you come to do work on your laptop.

What can I say? A Syracuse staple

^^^^^ was my previous 5 star review. Great coffee, but they banned me 🤷‍♂️

A nice locally owned coffee shop located in a historic building in the heart of the city and state government centers in downtown Syracuse. It is breath of fresh air amongst the coffee corporate giants that have invaded our cities and undermined local shops and the uniqueness that they offer. I would recommend that if are in this part of downtown Syracuse and are looking for a cup of coffee, past by the Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts and walk here for true local cup of coffee. It is right next to City Hall.

Recess coffee has chosen an excellent location to expand, directly across the street from city hall. This is an excellent location for those who work downtown to have a quality cup of coffee and sandwich, but since not a lot goes on in this vicinity on weekend mornings, parking is cinch, unlike their other location, where parking is nigh impossible 24x7, and the place is constantly filled with college kids staring at their computers, nursing one cup of coffee for three hours (again, referring to the original location, not this one). Anywho, I was impressed with my delicious pour over, and everything bagel. The wraps in the case look delicious, and I look forward to trying one on my next visit. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the whole coffee beans they sell have the all important "born on" date, instead of the nebulous "best by" date. Coffee beans are at their most flavorful when they are roasted. The further away from the roast date they are ground and consumed, the less flavorful your cup of Joe. This is a matter of days and weeks, not months. Other roasters give their beans six months to a year. This is appalling. Recess will continue to get my business because I know my coffee is very fresh, and I can taste the difference.

First time trying recess coffee and our drinks were amazing! We both ordered our go to coffees - mocha lattes. Honestly I think it was one of the best mochas I’ve ever had. Coffee was smooth, strong and packed a lot of flavor without being overbearing. Perfect amount of mocha and whole milk.

Interior was very clean and stylish with plenty of seating. And last, the staff were very polite. Will definitely come back!

My favorite coffee and noms place in Syracuse. Nice variety of drinks, shots are well pulled and food, while a little limited is very tasty. Parking is occasionally a challenge.
