Good, very friendly and attentive service. The iced coffee I ordered (If I recall, iced cappuccino) overall was good, tasty and balanced. The bougatsa (a Greek sweet custard in phyllo dough pastry) was ok; I will admit, I expected it to be a bit better. Apparently, it is imported directly from Greece. Price-wise, I would say a bit pricey, more closer to the umbiquitus chain we all know. Overall it was a good experience. All the rage in Greece apparently, I figured, since I was in the area, to go in and see what the fuss is all about. I may drop by some other time when in the area again.
I love my Coffee and today I was so pleasantly surprised how good coffee was. This is a brand to look out for, the service and there product were on point. I highly recommend to pay them a visit you won’t be disappointed.
I first saw Mikel in Athens and Paros. I remember that every coffee I ever had at any Greek cafe was extraordinary. Today I wanted to revisit that experience here in New York and so I visited Mikel in Astoria. The cappuccino mikel was indeed, extraordinary! Very tasty with smooth silky steamed milk. Just lovely lovely❤️ I then bought a Greek coffee to take on my walk it too was wonderful. It reminded me of the coffee in Greece, bold and rich yet smooth. A coffeeshop worthy of its place in Greek Astoria 🇬🇷
A pleasant coffee shop with decent lattes and some relaxing indoor and outdoor seating. It connects inside with Gyro Corner next door. I believe this is a Greek chain, so it does visually feel kind of chain-y, but not in a terrible way. Even iced drinks come in a cute paper cup which is kind of funny. My only complaints: 1. The lattes always have so much foam that your drink feels like it has very little actual liquid for the size. 2. Hours can sometimes be erratic (e.g. closing early due to "not enough staff").
Absolutely love their coffee here. Great little coffee shop with a small variety of savory and sweet food options. Staff are always very friendly and pleasant.
Cute place, good coffee but the way the owner talks to the staff, claps and snaps finger at them is a major put off. Be nice to your staff.
Update 4/7: it’s the second time I see the owner mistreat her staff. She’s so worried about appearance that she ignores the fact that her treatment of them in PUBLIC is what makes it ugly.
3.5 stars. Mikel Coffee is a Greek coffeehouse chain. They have over 300 locations worldwide and recently opened their first NYC location here in Astoria. There are many good coffeehouses in Astoria but was curious about trying Mikel Coffee out.
The café has a very welcoming vibe with lots of pretty outdoor seating. The indoor space is somewhat limited, but they make good use of it with bar seating overlooking the street and a couple of small tables. The décor somewhat reminds me of Starbucks but much hipper looking. I really liked the whole décor theme which they also use in their coffee mugs and paper bags.
Mikel offers a range of drinks and some food. The food options consist of deserts (cookies, brownies, sliced cakes), breads and sandwiches. All looked great but I think they are premade and sit in the displays until sold.
On my visit yesterday, I ordered a small café au lait, Biscotti Tsourekaki and a cheese pie. The coffee was superb, very strong but smooth. The Biscotti was individually packaged and premade but delicious. The cheese pie was okay; I liked the flaky crust, but the filling was a bit bland.
For a first visit, it was overall very good, but I must note that they did not ask for proof of vaccination status for anyone eating indoors. Plus, out of the three staff working behind the counter, only one had a mask on which was improperly placed below her nose. Both the barista who made my coffee and the person who took my order did not have a mask on. I actually only noticed this while I was waiting for my order to be called. I think I will hold off on returning for another visit until I feel more comfortable.
Great location and having indoor and outdoor seating is great. The espressos are mellow and not overpowering in flavor and texture. They froth the milk for every kind of coffee and it makes a huge difference, esp when sitting there w your coffee and reading/chatting!
Nice little coffee spot. Stopped here after brunch. Had the mikelccino. The ice cream gave a real creamy and smooth component to the coffee. Even though alot of diary, wasnt heavy nor rich. Good balance.
