Hillcrest Restaurant and Trading Post Saloon

Great welcoming manager, friendly efficient staff. Law Vegas omelette (7.95+T) free refill coffee, best #omelette in town. Chilli sauce not spicy and is thick. Potatoes fried like an omelette very good - oily but not greasy. Free Wi-Fi, kids welcome, no running space. Walking distance, large Carpark. Very different from all other restaurants in town, very interesting and great atmosphere. Good for dates, popular with locals, "best in town" award. Must try.

Oh my! Pulled into this little gem. Was greeted right away from a very nice lady. She told us it was going to be a little longer than usual wait due to staff shortages. We gladly waited. Sure am glad that we did! I am a taco lover....never heard of Burnt cheese tacos... my taco life will never be the same. They are AMAZING! All of our food was great and the friendliness of the staff and other customers was amazing. If we ever find ourselves back in Las Vegas, NM we will gladly return!

Since 1949..........are you kidding? There must be only a dozen restaurants across America, in small towns, that are even 25 years-old, let alone 72 years!

Hahaha....I rolled into Las Vegas late one night and searched up and down the strip for a motel room. Couldn't find a single one in July.2021. Of course I did have special needs: my 10 1/2 year-old companion, Raji, a 120 lb. Rottweiler. I needed a dog-friendly motel.

Luckily, when I was about to hit the road and just continue driving to Raton where I usually stay at my favorite motel, the Robinhood Motel, I stopped by the Budget Inn and met Jay, the reservationist. Cool as Paul Newman in his famous role, Jay smiled, welcomed me and Raji, and I had a room. Better than that, I asked is ther anywhere in Las Vegas that I can still get a quick meal other than the usual chain fast-food places. Jay explained that the bar next door was associated with The Hillcrest and was still open for another 35 minutes. I walked over to nirvana and had a beer and wonderful chicken sandwich at the bar. So nice...........

The Hiilcrest is a unique place. Next visit, I'll eat in their dining room, a special place that looks like Audy Hepburn or Spencer Tracy might walk in at any moment. At least I will and shall eat happily waiting for the ghostly guests to show.

The baked lasagna was amazing as well as the tuna melt! Ashley is the sweetest girl! Be sure if you come to this place that you understand they are short staffed but they work very very hard and they're very good at what they do.

The food was amazing, staff were attentive but took forever to respond.

Home style food-Yum! Real mashed potatoes. Great coffe! Great service! Friendly. Thanks!
***Edit...One year later, and we did not enjoy our visit today. 2 hour wait for food and then the order was wrong. Had to ask for refills. What we ate was ok, but nothing impressive. Hope this was a one time thing. Not sure if we will go back again to check. Poor service and over priced mediocre food.

Been disappointed when I come here lately. This place seems to be on a decline and things just aren’t the same anymore. Been trying to find a new place in town to get breakfast since they stopped doing it all day here

I highly recommend the Burnt Cheese Tacos! The service was awesome! We will return for our next visit!

We stopped for an early supper after a long road-trip back to New Mexico. We were looking for comfort food, good service and friendly staff. We found everything we were looking for a Hillcrest Restaurant! We liked the food, we thought the prices were reasonable and staff were friendly and willingly made menu recommendations, when asked. The suggestions were spot-on and resulted in a great meal for us! We enjoyed ourselves and plan to stop by again! Give 'em a try....you might be glad you did!

The food was delicious, value was right, and a nice atmosphere but I need to reduce 1 star for wait times (to be seated, to order, to get my food). I assume they are understaffed.
