This place is the only good place to get a proper cup of coffee. Weather it be espresso based, drip, or pour over. They also get their baked goods from belthazar and Dough, both of which are fantastic. They get their been from inteligensia and propeller, the latter being pretty hard to find. Weather you need a quick fix or are going in to get fresh been this place is for you.

On Monday morning, there was one employee by herself with a constant line. She was taking orders and making all the drinks. I felt bad for her because she was managing all of it on her own. But she did a great job and was very apologetic for the wait and did her best to get all of the orders out in a timely fashion.

I live downtown Newark and tried this place yesterday for first time. When I initially ordered the barista said “THAT IS $5”, and I said ok.... lmao. Then she proceeds to make the coffee stiff faced and UPPITY!!

While coffee was good, I would never go back. Black owned 😢

Really delicious coffee. Doughnuts are from Brooklyn and voted best in the nation. Baristas very skilled. This place is high quality. And super friendly service. Highly recommend!

It's not easy to get a good coffee in Newark so Black Swan stands out for being pretty good. The latte was good, though not outstanding which made the high price hard to swallow. When prices are higher than Starbucks, the coffee better be better too, and Black Swan just wasn't.

Fantastic find. No offense to Newark, but I wasn't expecting much...but this blew me away. I got a cortado, which was the perfect temperature and perfectly balanced, as well as a nitro cold brew, which was one of the smoothest and creamiest (without cream) cold brews I've ever had. Yes, they use Intelligentsia beans (which are excellent but widely available), but the baristas know what they're doing and it shows, and this is one of the best expressions of Intelligentsia I've ever had (including from Intelligentsia's own shops in Chicago). Highly recommended and on par with the top options available across the river--maybe even a sliver above. Definitely worth the walk from Newark Penn Station!

Very cool modern space, awesome artwork, great view and decent coffee.

I ordered a late' which was made very well. Espresso tasted very rich and strong. Prices were fair for an independent shop downtown. Service was very courteous and quick at a busy time of day.

Small but that's the wrong term. I would say it is an intimate setting with a small menu of all things they specialize in. Their hot drinks are made perfectly bwith the knowledge of making the drinks as an art and a science. It's definitely a nice place to go individually or with one person especially on a Sunday morning.
