The food, coffees and bakery items are definitely delicious here, but the wait times are pretty abysmal. It’s understandable during their busy times (morning) but when there’s 2-3 people in there, it’s strange how long items take to come out.
Also, it’s worth asking when you order if they do have the bread you request (especially bagels) in stock, because if they don’t they usually come out 10+ mins after you order and say “we’re out of ___ bagels” which is pretty frustrating. The staff should be 86ing items that are done, but they done.
Overall, great spot for bakery, coffee, and food items, but they could use better training / efficiency.
Very bizarre experience here the other day. Walked in to an almost empty shop with at least 7-8 workers there. Walked up to register (no line) and placed an order for a bagel with veggie cream cheese. After about 15 minutes of patiently waiting I asked where my order was and they said they’re still working on it. I found this rather odd since only 1-2 customers had come in since my arrival and I had not even asked for it to be toasted. I did notice lots of whispering though after I asked as if I couldn’t see them, but no one bothered to actually walk back and see what was up. I waited another 5 minutes and asked another young man what the story was so he actually took the time to go back and see only to come back out and tell me their was no everything bagels left so they were making me some. I told him I just wanted a quick bagel and someone should have told me this news and I would have just ordered a different kind. He actually apologized and let me know it would be ready shortly. Eventually it did come out and I was disappointed. The cream cheese tasted like they just mixed soup mix and cream cheese together and the bagel was crispy. Maybe they tried to toast it? I can’t imagine what is going to happen when it’s busy this summer because this was a random Friday and it was not busy at all. Won’t be back
Isabel’s is a great little pastry/coffee shop. It’s ran by two sisters and they really do an awesome job. They are there every day, working hard and overseeing that things are done right. The selection is plentiful and delicious. The place is clean, the staff is friendly and cafe type seating outside. Kudos to the girls for running such a fine establishment.
LOVE this place! Super friendly family owned small business in Avalon. Great service and food. Everything in the bakery is made fresh on the premises--awesome donuts, sticky buns, bagels, bread, cakes. They are famous for their "crumb buns" - delicious!! They have good lunch/sandwiches, too.
Food was really good and the staff was friendly. It did take a while for our order to get out though, and there was not a long line or full tables outside so it wasn't packed. Just took a while.
They crumbuns are incredible. Best on the island. Good breakfast and lunch spot be prepared for a short wait as the line is typically out the door. Outside and inside seating or you can do take-home.
Best cream donuts ever...immensely disappointed to drive three hours for one in December for my son who has been working summers and unable to visit. Website said open....sign in the door said OPEN when we pulled up. It wasn't. Ugh.
